All I want to do is send is pictures and text, is that possible?

Re: pictures - - Check the web site of the app you are planning on using, and see if IR beaming of data is supported. You may have to e-mail the apps' author if the documentation fails to mention beaming.
Re: text - - The advice above applies to text apps as well, but I'll give you some examples. Memo allows you to beam a whole category of memos or just a single one. For DOC files, iSilo does support beaming individual files, but TealDoc does not; and TakeNote! supports beaming by category or by file. Also, PeanutReader does support beaming doc files; but I'm not sure what happens with their proprietary formatted document files (as these need to be unlocked, even if you do beam them).
