Question

I was wondering - it might make some sense for the Springboard platform for Handspring to come out with a external add on for the Palm III and Palm V form factor (maybe kind of like the Omnisky modem) which allows the Palms to accept and use Springboards.

There are by far more, Palm IIIs and Vs in the world then Visors and this might give the whole springboard thing the kick in the pants it needs.

Any thoughts? Would you get one?

I don't think you could do this, because the serial port interface of the Palm III/V does not have the necessary specs. Hawkins came up with the Springboard idea not just to add another serial port on the back, but because it gives more direct and faster access to the motherboard than the serial port.

It probably IS possible. BUT the bandwidth (a.k.a. Speed) would suffer greatly. Like the difference between transferring information to the RAM on your motherboard (genuine springboard), or to a Floppy in your floppy drive (adaptor).

Question

Any idea of what the relative difference would be between the direct Springboard and a via the serial port springboard?
