I can't grab a registration on the network. So Eric tried helping me with a couple Verizon technicians. They gave me one IP, no luck... then a test IP and it worked.

I know they are still providing service but I just can't get on the network.

First post -- sorry if I botch any netiquette.

I signed up for YY for my visor deluxe a few weeks ago, had it working, then had it die. A tech directed me to the novatelwireless.com firmware update, which i got and installed. the modem seemed to work then, but yy produced constant fatal exceptions, and apparently had taken down the avantgo browser with it. of course, no access to tech support any more. i was still getting good connections (wash, dc) according to the minstrel utility.

i installed yy4 yesterday, which apparently cleaned up the corrupted stuff from yy3 well enough that as of this morning i get a good connection and can browse again. for how long, who knows.

Question Novatel WIreless firmware update

Forinash,

Could you provide the link to that? What kind of update does it entail? Thanks.

i mentioned two upgrades, the novatel firmware and yy4 software.

i got the firmware upgrade from http://www.novatelwireless.com/support/downloads.html#1 based on the yy tech's recommendation to fix my numerous fatal exception crashes. he told me to get http://www.novatelwireless.com/supp...load/min32.zip, which i stupidly did without noticing that it requires palm os 3.3+, which my vdx doesn't support (right?). i went back and got http://www.novatelwireless.com/supp.../Minstrel30.zip and installed (it's just a single .prc) and the modem itself has connected fine since then -- just the yy corruption (which seemed to corrupt the avantgo browser as well).

i got the yy4 upgrade at http://my.yadayada.com/yy/download/YadaYada.exe. after installed via running the .exe and hotsyncing, first time i went into yy on the visor it took a couple of minutes zipping, unzipping, deleting and installing a number of apps. but then first time i ran the yy browser, it worked fine. c.

looks like you'll have to get the yy4 upgrade by drilling down from http://www.yadayada.com.

Cool Yada Lives!

Everyone,

Friday 11:00am

Just spoke with Eric yet again. He reiterates that Yada is NOT going out of business. With regards to the recent technical problems; he says that their problems with AT&T were rectified Thursday afternoon, and that **everyone should be able to now use YY normally**, despite what Yada's outgoing voicemail message says. If you can't connect, call him (888)Yadayad & have him reset your ip address. This was necessary for me here in NY, and now I'm up & running just fine. Eric said that he is monitoring this thread, and I urged him to make his presence known. He said that unfortunately he isn't authorized to make a statement from YY's website, and I suggested that he speak up here.

On a separate issue, he gave me the following tip for Prism owners who wish to use the new color browser:

Be sure to go into SETTINGS>PROFILES, and set the QUALITY level to HIGH QUALITY. The new browser comes with the default setting set to MEDIUM.

Here's to hoping that everything's back to normal....

Best regards,
-cnegrad

I am beginning to think that Eric is the only person on board. At least they kept a good one.

Ok, I tried to follow you guys' advice updating and erasing my Minstrel S. I erased it successfully but now I can't get it to work. It won't turn on or anything. I tried running the Minstrel S updater from the last YY update (3.1.1) but it tells me my module is "incompatible with updater." What do I do now? I have a VDx.

Got it. Phew!! I left a message with YY and guess who called me back? Eric, of course. He told me to do something that I had read earlier and had forgotten about--hold the down button while pushing "Update Now" on the screen and that would bypass any error message. Sho nuff, it worked. Back in business.

More about OmniSky

Today I was again in an area where I could access OmniSky's server. I was unable to use their browser, which kept giving me error messages. The Tech I spoke with this time gave me another - about the 4th! - IP and suggested that I do another installation of the OmniSky software onto the Visor and modem, as he suspected that some YadaYada software was still lurking in there...I did this when I returned home.

The OmniSky browser still does not work, but the amazing result, maybe of the reinstall, probably more likely of the newest IP, is that, for the first time ever, I am actually able to go online from my home! On its best day, YY was never able to do that! We live in a very remote area, from a wireless point of view and this must be a first up here!

Anyway, I am very pleased. The new, Beta version of Blazer is really fast, Avantgo (not the wireless version) works perfectly, I can send and rec'v. email via my ISP and even use the modem at home.

Some of you have connected, others haven't. Doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason. Not location, Visor model, or YadaYada version.

I'm in the Los Angeles area. With a Deluxe. With what should be the latest firmware from Novatel (unless they've updated 3.0 in the last month or so). I am still working with YadaYada 3 (although it's been reinstalled after 4.0 gave me fits), but that shouldn't make a difference because the connection is made before the Browser starts up.

I am still getting a registration code error #4. The modem finds the cellular signal, finds the CDPD, the RSSI is full strength, but it can't get the connection.

So I guess I'm just *****ing and suggesting that those of you who can connect, make the most of it while it lasts.

For what it's worth, I'm still able to get on the network here in Seattle with no problem.

Connection

I, too, still cannot connect (Minneapolis, MN). I think that I will call YadaYada and hopefully I will get a hold of Eric.

Thumbs down YadaYada Bummer time

I ordered my YadaYada Modem and service about 2 weeks ago on a Friday. The next Thursday I got the modem and set it up and had lots of problems with the service. I called their tech support and I was told I had to leave a message I left a message and never heard back so for almost a week I called them back Everyday a few times a day as well as sending emails for help and I never got a callback Or email reply. I decided that I would send the modem back and cancel my service since there support was no good. After I called a few times last Tuesday I finally got someone one the phone other then the lady who kept telling me to leave a message he was a tech for the company he told me what was going on with the company. I told him I wanted to send the modem back and cancel my service in which he replied not to worry for now as I wont be getting billed for any service that I am using and as far as sending the unit back and canceling service that cant be done at this time because of the situation of the company and he said I should call back in a few weeks to see what is going on. I told him Well If I keep the modem will I have to pay a penalty since there website says that of you cancel the service you will have to pay the difference between what they sell the modem for and what the company that makes the modem sells it for. He said he doesnt think there should be a problem or penalty if I keep the modem since the company is in the condition that it is in and he recommended that I get a new service provider and even said If I need help setting the unit up with a new company to call him and he would help me do it.
I decided to use Omnisky since they seem to be a strong company and having them sign a contract with handspring to use the new browser was a plus in my book. I went to there website and downloaded there software and flashed the modem, I then called them and in less then 10 mins they had me fully setup and running. I was impressed by there service. The only thing I didnt like at this time is the browser that they use as it doesnt support graphics, So I downloaded 2 different browsers to try out One called Palmscape which I do recommend it is a great shareware browser and the other browser I downloaded is actually the same browser that yadayada uses, The company that makes the browser even has a website that you can setup that is identical to the yadayada page.

Exclamation Eric of YadaYada, if you're listening...

I'm desperate to get re-connected, and my calls to Yada have gone unanswered.

Eric, our friend at Yadayada, if you're out there monitoring this board, please return my calls!

I'm going on a trip Friday that absolutely requires wireless connectivity and my Yada connection doesn't work.
I can't believe the timing is so bad!

I live in Manhattan in NYC. Is it as simple as resetting my IP address?

Please email me at [email protected].

I'll be forever grateful!

When I received an email stating they would be "ceasing operations" I sent an email to the CEO asking them if they wanted to make a statement. We printed the exact statement...what is now starting to bother me is there has been no clarification coming out of the company. I don't know who Eric is...and no, they didn't say they were going out of business. They said they were ceasing operations and reorganizing. That seems to give them plenty of wiggle room...in case of a last minute reprieve. I would like Yada to come off the fence and tell their users the actual status of what is going on. A lot of people are concerned. I hate to see any company close, but I also want to make sure their customers aren't left high and dry. If you can afford it...I guess wait it out...see what happens.

I think a thread like this is great...we aren't just sitting out here all by ourselves...we can compare our information and experiences.

Connection in Minneapolis/StPaul area

Hello,

I am just as confused and furious about how YY treats its customers.
Does anyone in the Minneapolis/StPaul been able to connect to YY? If so, please tell me how you do it. Thanks in advance.

Slightly OT - AvantGo Wireless

Has anybody looked at AvantGo's new wireless "partner?" You can now apparently by the Minstrel S and service through SunDial. But I can't find information about getting just the ISP and not the modem. Anybody else?

Well, magically, today I was able to connect through YY with no real problems. The registration error 4 that I used to get has disappeared. Good connections in Dallas and Alexandria, VA. No connection in Atlanta though.

I still have not heard back from YY, but since I seem to now be able to connect, I am not that worried about it.
