He's not quick and won't ask me about the number of colors...he doesn't even know what bit his screen is.

Sony can have their "copy protection" but look how HUGE the underground world is...their memory stick won't be able to stop anything when used with the

software.

I made the animation from some frames of an MPEG movie I found on Carracho (hotline type program) called "George W. Bush picks a running mate..." Hehe

In fact, the

*right*

software is always useful.

The only thing you can't do with the "right" software is using real mp3 files. The Clie has probably not the hardware with enough computing power.

About 256 colors: It's really not as bad as you would imagine: i converted some photos on my computer from 16bit to 8bit (without optimizing) and resized them to 320x240. The difference between 16bit and 8bit at this size is not very big.

Thats why the added a seperate DSP decoder which is what I believe it is called....so technically its like one thing is dedicated to the sound like an MP3 player, which leaves your Dragonball Processor open to compute other things ala running other programs simultaneously.

I think its 320*320. What software did you use? I wanna test it out!!!

Yes, there might be a DSP inside. But it will be used for decoding the ATRAC files. For mp3 you would need a faster processor.

Resizing photos? No problem, use Paint Shop Pro. I've tried only 320x240 because the standart format is 4:3.
When converting to 8bit you only must use "Windows colors", because with "Optimized" the picture does not really have only 8bit (colors are optimized for that one picture then).

Wow that's interesting...but I think I'll wait for a true english OS Clie product from Sony. Trying to avoid that "All your base are belong..." deal.

Thanks Jason, your pictures of the Clie looks great, looks like the screen is fairly bright and the graphic are very sharp. I am very interested in getting the Clie once Sony release the unit here.

Can you answer a few questions about the Clie that I'm dying to know:

1. The Clie has 8 mb internal memory and 7 mb's of user accessible Flash ROM, is that right? I use my handheld mostly for storage of medical books, having 15 mb of memory will be fantastic.

2. The memory sticks: The auto-MS gate program launches apps stored in the stick right? Is there a lag time for the app to be copied then launched. Another memory stick question, can databases stored in the stick be access directly like TRG/HandEra?

3. When the Clie is in the enhanced high-res mode, is it significantly slower when reading text?

Yup you are right that Clie 700C has 8mb of ROM but at this current moment, neither the FlashPro or JackFlash supports the 8MB ROM now. But I believe they should be releasing an updated version soon.

Yes there's a lag when running the auto MS gate. For the database, I believe only non-volitale databases are supported. I have not really try that yet. I will let all of you know once I explore that.

Initially yes. But Sony has released a patch that "overclock" the N700C. And most programs are running at pretty decent speed now.

Although the lag time to retrieve data from the memory stick still concerns me.

Did you try out the gMovie player already? How fast is video playback at high resolution?
And do you know if there will be a European (German) version some day?

I am very happy with my Prism, but am leaning towards getting the N700C. Trying to hold out until I see the next Visor is getting harder and harder each day.

Any clue on the next visor? And don't tell me just a color version of the edge, if that's the case . . . SONY here I come.

THE SONY SOUNDS IMPRESSIVE. IF IT MAKES IT TO THE MARKET BEFORE THE 505M ROLLS OUT COULD IT SERIOUSLY IMPACT PALM.
