Question

I saw the thread in which Mark Eagle explained how to add a "tasteful" picture with your name by entering profile editing. However, I didn't know what to type in?? Where? I am impressed with Visor Central members' pictures and want to put in mine! Please explain for the computer confused. Oh, and how does one put in smiles in their messages??

Smilies are easy ... read about them here.

As for the images, try the new Avatars (images that appear under you username in forum posts). Go into your profile, select the Edit Options page, and you'll find the Avatar section at the bottom.

Question Still stuck

I found the Avatar section. Is there a limit to the size of the picture you can use? I tried putting in a JPEG image from my scanner and after a long period of time, the screen returns back to no Avatar. I tried it twice Should I make a smaller file for a picture? What am I doing wrong? I'm just clicking under browse, selecting a file, and clicking submit. I hope the smile works.

150 x 150 pixels or 40KB (whichever is smaller).

OK, I can get an avatar to show up, but being graphically challenged, how do I take an existing pic and reduce the size to 150 x 150? I've found a lot of little pix, but some of you guys seem to have normal, clear pictures as avatars. Is there a way to take an existing jpg and reduce it somehow while still keeping it somewhat clear and sharp? Thanks for the info.

Typically you need some sort of image editing software. There's literally dozens of them available. I currently use PaintShop Pro from JASC.

OK.. I'll be nice

If you want, (as long as the file is under 500k) e-mail it to me at [email protected] I'll edit it down to the appropriate size etc, and than e-mail it back to you. k?

A good one for the PC is IrFanView. Weird name, but it's free and small.

Miradu, thanks a ton for your offer...I may take you up on it, but I'd like to try to figure it out first. I tend to change my mind on things like wallpaper, signatures, etc a lot, so I'd like to be able to do it. I'll try to find the program that James mentioned first...
