I had a bad situation with my Visor Deluxe. I was playing a game (fire escape) and I was pushing all sorts of buttons which I guess the program wasn't prepared for and it had forces a hard rest on my visor.
So I thought I'd just hotsyc but it's not working.
It seems to be syncronizing and uploading everything fine, but then it says it's trying to do a cleanup and it causes a fatel exception, which intterupts the hotsync process, and ends up cancelling the whole hotsync process.

Did anyone experience such a thing and is there any way to revive my now usless visor.

Thanks.

Arrow Do THis

Do this to fix the problem. Hard Reset your Visor again. Then, delete the backup folder from your user name folder. This is usually found in:
C:/Palm/username/ or
C:/Program Files/Palm/user name or
C:/Program Files/handspring/user name

The backup folder have your downloaded software only. Deleting it will not affect your data in anyway. You will need to install your apps again though.

NO!!! do not do that. The backup directory contains, not only your downloaded software, but also all the data for any program you have which does not have an associated conduit.

Arrow Potter you are right

Potter you are right. he should just remove the back up folder and put it on his desktop instead of deleting it. In any case, his core data (address, memo etc) is not affected.

Sorry yardie

Yardie, sorry about the very terse, possibly rude, message. I just did not want ChocoLux to loose any information. So I want to get the word out quickly. However, I then had to leave before I could enter my fuller message.

I would not do a Hard-reset, except as a last resort.

You said that your device was saying that it was cleanup, and then it through a fatal exception. Question, what did the Hotsync log say? Another question, does your device seam to be fine, except for this exception when you Hotsync?

Any way, when the device is saying cleanup up, besides doing things like garbage collection and memory de-fragmenting, it is sending a special launch code to all the applications on your device indicating that the Hotsync just took place. Occasionally a poorly written program will not handle this launch code correctly, and will cause a fatal exception. So, the problem is finding this arrant application, and either replace or remove it. That however is a process of elimination. Deleting a program from the device, Hotsyncing, repeat until the fatal exception goes away. Probably want to start with the applications recently added, for they are the more likely culprits.

Question, do you have a flash module? Have you recently moved applications or data files to it? It could be possible that the arrant application is trying to update a file that is now on the flash module. If that is the case, then the solution is of course moving the application or file off of the flash module. Simple way to test if this is the case, Hotsync without a module in the Visor.

Cool thanks!!

I wil try moving my folder and hotsyncing again.

Thanks for all the advice!!!
But do you know why I get the error? I hope that this is not a reoccuring thing. My visor was not completly full so I don't see why a cleanup/memory error could happen.
