Yes it can. That is InnoGear's intent.

Thumbs up

My basis for going with SoundsGood? Obviously there are lots of different reasons including form factor and software design. Did you notice that you can download their quick start guide? Looks like a great little product.

I don't mean to bash Innogear. I've worked on the Vendor side of things before and I understand how hard it is to get a product out and market it. I think Minijam is terrific and, once all orders are fulfilled, we'll all be happy campers. I'm just not sure I want to be a part of Innogear's growing pains right now. I just want to get a nice product with a nice manual and nice technical support (notice I didn't say GOOD). If I have problems, I want to be able to reach someone right away and have a replacement in the mail the next day. Is that too much to ask?

P.S. I was told by Innogear today that they "plan to get all
orders that were placed before July 20 shipped out by the end of next week."

Here's a supplement to your confirmation, from Innogear's Scott Monfort:

Software update will allow storage of programs etc., but not other audio files. The audio files need a codec to decode. Right now we can only store MP3 on MMC. With software update, we will be able to store data and programs. Any new hardware version next year will have voice recording capabilities.

Now that we're nearly two week into shipping has anyone actually received their MiniJam or expecting it soon? Everytime I call they tell me I should have it in 2 weeks.

It's interesting that when you look at the user poll in James' review, most of the comments are from people who claim to have actually received and used the product. But no one's acknowledged receiving one on the boards. Maybe we should start a "MiniJam received log" thread.

Hallelujah! Someone's got one. We can't wait to hear your opinion, Eric. By the way, did your account status change at the Innogear website? Did they change that "Item on back order" status to an "item shipped" status? I'm just wondering if it pays to continue checking their site for news.
Congratulations!

Exclamation

EricG: when you post your review, please list your order number and/or order date. That way the rest of us can try to guess when ours will arrive. Thanks!

My order #1249 changed from "back order" last Friday to "shipped". I called them Friday and it is expected to arrive this Thursday or Friday (they gave me a tracking number).

Question Interesting call

Just had someone at Innogear tell me that Order Number 1249 did not ship. (?)

I was asking about my own order. I was told that it would ship "in the next couple of weeks." Since my order is within 50 orders of #1249, I was surprised by this response and I asked about #1249.

Granted he may of been protecting the consumer privacy of #1249, but he was very definite about the order not shipping.

Anybody else out there with an order number in the 1200's that has a "shipped" status?

Cool Minijam (part 1)

Hi all,

I'm going to do my review of the minijam in two parts.. (The real world and lack of recharged batteries put a kink in being able to provide a completed review tonight), funny how things like this always hit when you least expect or want them to.

dianeholly, yes, my account status did change on the innogear web site to "shipped", according to the innogear box the minijam came in, they shipped mine on Spetember 8th (from Gilroy CA), I had originally ordered mine on July 10th, I had order number 1244 (according to the innogear back order letter)

James has done an excellent review of the minijam, so I am not going try to compete with his review,(I couldn't, he's way better at this than me), Ill just add my own personal observations.

Lots of stuff came with the minijam, (I'm still going through all of it). My first impression is, wow, this thing is small, a lot smaller than I thought it would be, and the MMC card is even smaller, I still don't believe it can actually hold 64mb of data, I had thought a smart media card was little, the MMC card is about the same size as a postage stamp! I have a Blue VDX and I got the ICE minijam, it looks great in my visor. The minijam isn't much larger than my Handspring backup module. I also received a nice soft padded case and two CD's, James's review only covers one in his review, maybe I was lucky and got a bonus Cd?. One cd had the minijam software and the other is called "The TAP files" "powered by PalmGear HQ" (I haven't looked at this one yet). The minijam software cd was a little different than what I had expected. Being used to autoloading CD's I was thrown off a bit as the minijam software cd, as it does not autoload under windows, you have to manually open up the cd and the respective folders to get to the appropriate setup programs. I didn't like this aspect of the software installation, as I am still a bit unsure if I have everything I need loaded..

I haven't had a chance to try adding my own music files to the minijam yet, but so far I am impressed, the ear buds are pretty good (and I really hate ear buds). The sound quality is excellent. For the most part I agree with Jamess review, As I get a chance to play with more of the minijam's features I'll post my comments..

I can only think of one question i have not heard any answer to and that is can you load up two or three lets say 16 meg MMC cards and take them along with you and change them out as you see fit to have a large assortment of music with you like on a trip etc. It seems to me that if you can and as small as the MMC's are and as cheep as you might be able to find them on ebay, well this might be a great option and as you maybe able to store data on them later moving large files from home to work etc. might just come in handy.

After I was done with the review, I played around with hot-swapping an MMC with the MiniJam, and there were no problems. I just refreshed the playlist and the songs came (and disappeared) just like they should.

Thumbs up Minijam review part 2

Hi all,

Well I have had more than 24 hours to fiddle with the minijam. I am still impressed, mostly with its size and sound quality. I have to be honest, as this is the first (portable) mp3 player I have ever had. I have finnaly had some free time to try transferring files to the MMC card. The transfer process is pretty quick (it would be nice if it could be as fast as the GOOD module though). I have only used the MJLoader program so far, the Music Match Jukebox has a sizable number of features that will take time to fully explore, but from what I have seen offers some interesting functions.

I have noticed that my MINIJAM software cd is a bit different than James's CD. First off, mine is a CD-R -sliver/blue , and I have a clear label not a white one as shown in James's review. I also noticed the label layout is different. I have several Mac directories on it, but since I don't own a Mac or have access to one, I can't speak as to what level of support it has, but they are there. The label says it contains software for both MAC and WINDOWS and Handspring Visor.

I have also found out what the TAP FILES cd is, it's a cd-rom version of the PALM GEAR H.Q. website including (all?) the programs from Palm Gear HQ website, it has a nice interface. This is another program that will take time to really explore. This CD would be very handy for a new palm user or someone who has limited or no access to the net.

I have used the minijam in my truck with a generic CD to cassette adapter with excellent results. The visor being as small as it is, it's easier to put somewhere than my CD player is, and only has the single wire.

I have also used the minijam with a really nice pair of digital headphones with amazing results.

The soft padded case that comes with the minijam is also very nice, the built in hanging clip will be very handy.

The File Mover application that is on the MINIJAM works well, I have used it to move 1.7mb of data and apps from my Visors main memory to the flash memory on the minijam. I can only hope when they update the minijam to use the MMC as storage it's just a quick and easy as this. I don't own any other flash based springboard (i.e. HS 8mb module) so I can't compare the file mover on the minijam to any other springboard. I can see the file mover also being used to simply just delete old files as well.

All in all I am very happy with the minijam so far and I am really looking forward to additional features in the future.

First week of October ship date

With all this MiniJam/SoundsGood debate going on -- I got curious and called Innogear customer service. A very nice Kelly told me that the next shipments won't go out until the FIRST WEEK OF OCTOBER! She said the first shipment went out already and if you haven't received one -- you'll *probably* get it in October. Wooof!

I just talked to james at innogear who said all current orders will be filled in 2 weeks. The first batch is gone, so if your order status hasn't changed you didn't make the first cutoff (i didn't). He said something about the second wave being stuck in customs. Just FYI

Thumbs up Time in Transit

Just an FYI for all those who live in the 070.. to 119.. zipcode range.

If you ordered your minijam to be shipped via UPS ground service, as of September 1, 2000, the time in transit from San Jose to zips 070-119 decreased from 6 business days to 5 business days. It now takes less time for a package to travel from the Northwest/Northern Cal to the NJ/NY area.

If your minijam was shipped on a Wednesday it should arrive on the next Wednesday.
