I'm looking for a belt case for my Visor Deluxe. I've seen a few and am wondering which one(s) you think are the best. Thanks

Same question myself... I want one that's going to be secure on the belt (I've seen horror stories of clips breaking off), one that's not much bigger than my Prism, but has room for an oversized Springboard.

I don't ask much, do I? :-)

The Rhodiana and Vaja

In my opinion, the these two belt cases are the best. I owned a Rhodiana for almost a year before switching to a Vaja case. I really like the Rhodiana a lot. It offered good protection without being two bunky. My visor retained it's form-factor to a degree. Less than a month ago, I discovered that the clip-on button (which is made of plastic) was wearing down and evenually broke. I have read that Rhodiana cases are very proned to do this. In fact, I have read that the people at Rhodiana are so fed up with people asking for repairs that they discontinued the belt clip model. Don't get me wrong, Rhodiana is a great company, and from what I read, they gladly repaired all the broken clips.

When I heard that rhodiana no longer offer the belt clip model, I decided to look for another similar model. I had several citeria that my next case must satisfy.
1. belt-clip mechanism with easy removal of the case and easy re-attachment.
2. offers decent protection, yet maintain the Visor form-factor.
3. NO velcro (personal perference). I hate the sound that velcro makes, and they can wear causing them to get fuzzy and not work as well.

Well my search led me to the Vaja case. I have gotta say, I loved this case; yes, even more than the Rhodiana. The leather (I got the brown) really makes this case look classy. Wearing the Rhodaina, with its ballistic fabric, looked kinda geeky. The Rhodiana was ok when wearing my hospital scrubs, but sorta out-of-place when I'm wearing shirt-n-tie in my clinics.

The Vaja's rich leather looks very at home attached to my brown belt when I'm in slacks, shirt and tie. The Vaja is easy to remove and replace. It's very form fitting, and since it's made out of leather, it should further mold to my visor as time progress. It is ,in my opinion, an almost perfect case. I could only see one minus in the Vaja's design. Unlike the Rhodiana, the Vaja case sits fairly high when attached to the belt. This may be a problem to people who are... uh... overweight. If your belly or love-handles bulges over your belt, you may have a problem with the high-riding Vaja case.

Despite my handle, I'm in pretty good shape, therefore I didn't encounter such problem, but I could definity see the issue. Overall, I love the Vaja case, it's near perfect!!

I used this case for a year with my visor delux and really liked it... very secure on the belt and black leather.

A bit small for the prism though... just right for the delux

I bought mine at egghead.com for around $19

I am a fan of the e & b slipper case, the belt attachment is metal and i've never seen any post here in which this has failed. The visor can remain in the case even when syncing and using the stowaway. It does use velcro to close the flip top lid (the lid includes some pockets for things like business cards). Although the case does not provide much protection if you drop the visor, the quality and ease of attaching and removing the visor from the belt clip makes it unlikely you'd drop it (in 1 year of use I have never dropped it).

Targus makes a simple and durable one

Try Targus' CH046. Inexpensive and reliable. No "detachable clip" nightmares here.

my big concern..

What offers more protection? The Vaja, or the Rhodina? protection being, liquids spilling, small drops, big drops ,etc.. I still can't decide!

hmmm...

The Vaja and the Rhodiana offered about the same amount of protection to the disasters above. The differences in protection between to two are so marginal that neither case holds a distinct advantage.
BUT if you want to nick-pick here's what I think:

1. vs. spills: <Vaja> only because there's a plastic film that covers the buttons.

2. vs. drops: <Rhodiana> I think that the ballistic fabric that surrounds the visor is thick and can absorb more impact. HOWEVER, the Rhodiana case has two corner slits that expose the corners of the Visor (sorta like Achillis' Heel). So if the floor contacts the corner of the case on a fall, the Visor could be hit directly.

3. vs. Rain: <Vaja> I think the newly designed Rhodiana has an opening for cable syncing while the Vaja do not.

4. vs. the "Geek" lable: <Vaja> the case looks VERY classy.

5. vs. the "butter-fingers" syndrome: <Rhodiana> the case has two elastic bands that you can slip your hand into for a secure hold.

6. vs. PETA: <Rhodiana> made of ballistic fabric while the Vaja is rich leather (poor cows).

rhinoskin shocksuit

I use a rhinoskin shock suit for my VDX. It offers very good impact and torsional protection. I purchased it after cracking my screen while wearing a Palm clip on leather carrier. It is a little bulky but offers the advantage of a quick release clip for very rapid access. Disadvantages, I have to push it out from the case, a pretty easy process, in order to beam docs to my IR printer and to use on my stowaway keyboard. Also, they have very poor velcro adhesive that eventually pulls off. My boss bought one and his came off right out of the box.

Other Cases

If you are loaded and don't mind carrying some extra weight, get the RhinoSkin Ti Slider/ClipPack combo. The Ti (thats right, titanium) case is (Probably literally) bulletproof, and will protect against a 3 foot drop onto concrete. I used one for my Palm III back when I worked ER (Yes there is a VDX version). The downside is it will not take any oversized SB modules. The ClipPack uses a good steel spring to clip onto a belt, and never fell off (even if it did, who cares? It would bounce). The pack stays on the belt, and the slider case comes out.

Now I use the E&B slipper case with clip after my handspring holster bit the dust. Love it, but it will not save the VDX from a fall.

In my view, the visor is most likely to be dropped when you are putting in or removing modules or taking it out of its case to sync. The e&b slipper case makes it less likely to be dropped because you don't have to remove it to sync, sure some of the metal cases offer more day to day protection, but y'all are going to break your visor when its out of its case to reset or sync or "module"-ate...mark my words...

Ti-Case

I used a Ti case to hold me Deluxe about a year ago, it was one of the first case that I brought. It looked cool and all, and offered bullet-proof protection; however, I don't like the fact that the visor is secured in the case by friction alone. I remember one time, I was holding the case and wanted to check the time. With the Ti case in hand, I turned my wrist over to look at my watch, and my visor slid free from the Ti case. Luckily, I was over a desk, so my visor only fell about a foot, but had I been standing, my visor would have taken a 4 ft. tumble to the hard unforgiving floor.
