In follow up to the post from PIDeveloper above (I love companies that frequent discussions boards), I e-mailed them this morning asking about PalmGear and Amazon. I got this response (I also love companies that respond in less than 24 hours):

"1) Yes, palmGear is our current US online distributor. In fact, we received the purchase order from palmGear very late (few days ago). We shipped our products to palmGear yesterday morning.
2) We have not received any purchase order from amazon.com yet."

So I'm headed to PalmGear to order.

All I gotta say is......

WOO-HOO!!!!!!!!!

Of course, now I would like to hear what plans PI has for updates to the apps. Here's what I am most interested in:

1) It would be nice if the jpg viewer issue was resolved (i.e., if the jpg you are viewing is not megapixels, then the image viewed will be teeny - something about automatically scaling images down 8x?).

2) I would love to see more apps modified to access the sm card directly , a'la CSpotRun. It would also be nice to see CSpotRun at least have bookmarking capability - when you're viewing a doc of the entire Bible, bookmarking would be a plus.... 8^)

3) And lastly, but MOSTLY.... here's to PI's eventually discovering how to allow apps (and their databases) to be run directly straight off the card!

I'm waiting.... LOL...

Some response to your suggestion:
1) We would try to enhance our jpeg library. What I can tell is, it is techically possible to have actual size image viewing... but the speed maybe a problem for Visor.
Still looking into it.

2) The CSpotRun porting is originally done in my free time as a hobby. As I also have plenty of E-book for my Visor.
In fact free source code is available for download in our website now.

I haven't got time to enhance CspotRun right now. But I would to encourage other developers to adopter our Memplug FileSystem APIs. It may just spend a developer a few days to modify their application to take the advantage of Memplug, Full APIs document is included in our SDK for all registered Memplug developers.

3) PI has also see this point. Our team are looking into it.
But it is not high time to disclose anything now....
Pls give us some time.

Best Regards,
PiDeveloper

Wink

No problem, PIDeveloper. It's good to see such a quick reply. And I'm glad to hear PI is aware of all these issues and are actively looking into them. I can be patient...

Kopsis is expecting to receive prototypes of a "true" Springboard CF adapter next week so we can finish the software development for it. I can't say who's developing it or when it will be released, but rest assured that it is being developed.

SURPRISE! Palmgear has pushed the date back to 4/30 now. I wish Amazon would give some kind of date. I don't think I want to use Palmgear any more.

Okay, this is just starting to tick me off. PIDeveloper, I don't understand the delays that have repeatedly occurred. I ordered from Palmgear.com on 4/3, and almost *4 weeks later*, it is still backordered - the shipping date KEEPS slipping. I needed the extra storage ability for a conference I attended 2 weeks ago. Personally, PI and Palmgear should pay to upgrade ALL backordered items to overnight or 2-day shipping for free, for all the inconvenience this has caused paying customers. I have been patient, but patience is wearing VERY thin. If this thing DOESN'T ship on 4/30 (the FOURTH quoted ship date), I will seriously have to consider cancelling my order. If there were delays in manufacturing, PI should have informed customers of this fact.

I have said my peace. Now I will go stew in my anger and frustration.

Is the new backorder date for new orders or for existing orders? PiDeveloper indicated that Palmgear was going to get a shipment before 4/26/2001.

Nobody knows because all PalmGear will send is a form letter saying that when they're in they will be shipped.

No s@#t!

You should see my post above. Memplug told me that they had only received a purchase order from PalmGear a couple of days ago, so you can't blame them. Based on the fact that PalmGear only lists the separate module as back-ordered, but not the bundles, I have to assume that it has been PalmGear's decision and an attempt to raise their profit level.

As for Amazon, again according to Memplug, they have not ordered any product. Since their site says the product isn't even available yet, I'd assume that they haven't updated their page in some time.

The Delkin adapter does not appear to suffer the same limitations as to storage capacity of media. (See prior post discussing using a smartmedia card in a Matchbookdrive Type II CF Adapter)

DDSMFLS-AD DELKIN DEVICES: 128MB 3V/ 5V SMARTMEDIA TO ATA TYPE II ADAPTER approx $35

going to cancel order for a couple of reasons.

1. in the last month, i have grown comfortable with my matchbook while waiting for the memplug.

2. there is no guarantee with palmgear that 4/30 won't become 5/5, 5/10 and so on.

palmgear sent a purchase order only a few days ago? they've had them on backorder for 5 weeks now. in the meantime, kopsis has been improving fafilemover and nxist is preparing to come out with a cf springboard (through palmgear also, so good luck). memplug should worry that palmgear is hurting their market share here. just my opinion.

it's not like i was dying to get a memplug, i just wanted one. but the wait has afforded other options, and now, neither palmgear nor memplug deserve my business.

I'm getting close to that point myself. Amazon just started listing the memplug this week and I figure they'll see what the demand is before they commit. Amazon however has customer service down to a science and if you order on their pre-release program you can get info at any point. Like I say, I'm almost to the point of cancelling with PalmGear and going with Amazon. I've waited near a month now with no info but goofy form emails. I might as well go with Amazon where at least they won't play the carrot and stick routine with me. I'll give them till 4/30.

I'll buy my PalmOS software through Handango from now on.

I just got off the phone with Palm Gear and it looks like they are suppose to receive a shipment tomorrow. They will be shipping them in order of purchase and they are not sure if they will have enough for all orders.

Maybe we should all pitch in and buy them a calculator from Radio Shack so they can figure out how many they need and how many they should order?!?!
