I know I am a little late coming to this discussion, but I thought I had something to add.
One of my friends has a GVD that stopped hot syncing and he couldn't figure out why, he did many resets and never was able to hot sync. I figured ordering a button board from gethightech would fix it, but wanted to see if I could do anything to resolve the problem first.
I took the device apart and looked closely at the hot sync connector and its connection to the button board.
A couple of the connectors had pulled away from the button board and were no longer making contact.
I heated up my trusty soldering iron, and using the absolute tip of the iron, I applied it to the metal tabs of the hot sync connector.
The solder on the button board will melt (you will hear a little squeak type noise from the board) and the pin will reattach itself. Pull the soldering iron away from the connector, while pushing the connector at an angle to the button board.
Do this for all 8 of the connecting points and the two anchor points on either side of the connector and the button board will be firmly reattached to the hot sync connector.
After doing this the unit synced good as new and my friend was happy about not having to spend the $15 and wait two to three days for the board to show up.
