Question

Hi there,

Does anybody know a good (i.e. cheap!) online DVD shop that ships internationally.
I just bought a DVD player and was wondering if it would be cheaper to buy them online...
For one thing I will be getting movies earlier!

Don't worry about the region code thing, since my DVD player is region free

Do files get embarrassed when they get unzipped?

Arrow

I use http://www.dvdexpress.com for most purchases, but I'm giving http://www.dvdempire.com a try. I don't know if they ship intl or not.

X-Men should be in my mail soon!

Talking

I've used DVD Empire many times in the past couple of years, and have been very happy with their service.

They do ship internationally, but they may ask you to verify your credit card info by faxing them a photocopy of the front and back before they complete your first order.

It's not always cheaper though because depending on your shipment and where you are, customs will impose an import duty and a sales tax. It's systematic if you ship it via FedEx, since they do it for you to clear customs. Regular mail may or may not impose the duties.

You do get movies faster though, and the encoding is usually better quality on Region 1 discs.

although i'm not an international shopper, the majority of my dvd purchases come from researching the dvdtalk forums.

i highly suggest that you take a peek @ http://www.dvdtalk.com ...and perhaps the international forum.

Thanx to all who replied...

indeed moneywise it isn't that intersting... DVD's cost about A$30 to A$37 over here (divide by 2 for US$) so DVD's should be US$15 to US$20 to make it worth my while especially if you include shipping....

But it is good to be able to get newer DVD's this way

Just be careful about the regions you purchase from. The DVD makers stupidly made it so that the world is split into 6 regions. DVDs bought in the US (reg 1) can't be played in the UK (Reg 2) unless you have a region-free DVD player.

*Smacks forhead* D'oh!

BTW, I think I may switch to DVD Empire for future purchases. I still haven't received Fantasia yet from DVD Express.

come to think of it, with the current exchange rate, if you yanks have a multi region machine, it might be cheaper for you to buy for Aussie online stores....

1 A$ is about 0.53 US$ and the average prive is 30 something A$ that would mean 15 US$.....

check out http://www.dvdplaza.com.au/cgi-bin/pricecrawler3.cgi for the best prices in Australia....
also check out http://www.dvdplanet.com.au/

Also in general (well 70/30) the region 4 DVD's give you more bang for your buck...
