I've just had Tony Rudenko upgrade my Prism to 16MB. I cannot find a single thing to complain about Seriously though, he did a great job.

What's been interesting is that I haven't found any of my apps or hacks to be incompatible with 16MB internal memory installed (plus 8MB Flash module too). I really thought that there might be some apps that have not catered for more than 8MB internal memory.

Anyone else, with this upgrade, found any software incompatibility issues?

Thumbs up 16MB Prism upgrade: any incompatabilities?

Tony upgraded my Prism, and it has operated under heavy daily use flawlessly.

This Prism has over 360 programs, apps, and other junk, and nothing conflicts.

Trapweaver has calmed down my prior Hack conflicts.

The 16 MB Hagiwara Memory Module makes it the most robust PDA solution yet.

Five Star rating for Tony Rudenko's 16 MB Prism Upgrade.

Bruce, The PDA P.A.

But how do you back it up? There is no 16MB back-up module, is there? My 8MB Backup Module has saved me several times.

You can currently back it up to 16MB Flash module if you buy that.

With BackupBuddy and regular hotsynching, the Backup module is not essential (although I have used mine many times).

I plan to back it up using my MatchBookDrive CF adapter when JackBack releases their software for backing up to Compact Flash.

Lightbulb backup solution

You should be able to use the Hagiwara 16mb combined with the JackBack software they just reviewed here.

MemPlug is available from PalmGear H.Q. now. It can back up 16MB Prism/Platinum. By module it self, it is $49.95(they also have combos with smart media card for additional cost).

I had my Prism upgraded to 16MB in Japan. No imcompatibilities. I'm really glad I did that. I'm going to get a MemPlug(eventually...)since we have several 32MB smart media cards for our digital camera.

Thanks! One more question: if I get a MemPlug with 64MB, can I use it to back up the Visor in 16MB, and use the remaining 48MB for general storage? Or once I use it as a backup module, I can't do anything else with it?

I'm not sure. I read Scott Hansen's MemPlug review posted today, but it's not very clear. I heard you can't run apps in the card directly(except the ones stored in flush memory of Memplug), but may be you can store data(or otherwise it's worthless!). I ordered mine today so I'll let you know when I get it.

Yes, why not.
My 64MB card act as my

backup module -- As a developer, it is saver to backup my data all the time ;-)

document storage area -- I can read those PalmDoc directly on the smartMedia card

Movie centre -- I have several MB of movie to show my friends on the SmartMedia Card.

Photo Album -- Show my friends the photo taken with my DC.

Second storge -- I also transfer my less frequestly used application on the SmartMedia card and installer it with PiMover when needed.

Now, I am too lazy to do a hotsync. I just drag the pdb or prc file to my SmartMedia with my USB SmartMedia card reader. And install them with PiMover when needed.

I got my Visor Prism back from Tony Rudenko yesterday evening, and everything is working just great. I especially appreciated his ongoing communications on the status of the order, and the speed of the whole process. I am posting this note of appreciation on the discussion boards at visorcentral.com, so that other people can see what fine service he provides.
I have not encountered any Software problems at all, and my Hacks are all working well, (FindHack, Launch'em App Hack, and Crash.) Using Quickbits, my speedtest runs at 293, same as before the upgrade. I have backed up everything on a 16Meg Hagiwara module, without difficulty; I found I could leave the module in for a total of 32 Megs of working memory, if I wanted. However I have decided to use my Thinmodem Plus instead:- This gives me 24 megs of installed memory, plus the use of the modem. I have not found any software problems so far.
I give Tony (and the Thinmodem people at Card-Access) a 5-star rating.

Does Tony upgrade Platinum and Deluxes also

Noticed most of the discussion here has been about the Prism. Does Tony do the same 16MB upgrade for Deluxe and Platinum models as well? If so, have folks had the same success as with the Prism?

The Deluxe cannot be upgraded to 16mb internal RAM due to a processor restriction. The Platinum can be upgraded. However, last I checked, Tony does not currently offer this service. He replied to an email I sent him a few weeks ago and mentioned that he is working on providing this service. The only place I know of that upgrades Platinums is in Singapore ( http://www.palmworkshop.com/ ).

I'm not sure what is behind the delay at Tony's shop...he did not offer specifics.

-Regards.

Thanks DocVisor. Tells me that right now, if I want a Visor with 16MB in the base unit, Platinum or Prism is the answer. Especially given that no one here has mentioned anything about retrofitting the Edge(mono). Agreed?

The 16MB Springboard module is a Flash Memory module - so no battery needed.
With Tony's 16 MB RAM upgrade, I have not found any degradation of performance, and the battery endurance does not appear to be affected either.

Since the Edge used the same processer it should be able to be upgraded also.

Tony had my unit back just days before I went to France. I did not hesitate to take it. I am using OmniSky and have had no problems. I do notice a little less battery life but that could be contributed to more prograns that I am running on AfterBurnner3.
