How do i avoid from getting the screen scratch? do i get some kind of screen protection? or a better stylus pen? some people said get the writeright survival kit.

Some people say that the stylus that comes with the Visor will scratch the screen. Use sandpaper or an emory board to smooth the tiny ridge on the point.

WriteRight is a plastic sheet that fits over the screen to protect from scratches. They are sold in packs of 12 for about $30 USA.
You might be able to find them cheaper if you search the web.

Get the ones sized for a Palm III.

when i take the WriteRight off, will it messed up my screen?

Not at all. i cleaned my screen the first time I used it (with Windex.. hehe) and put one on. It wasn't made very well and had a line on it (plus I managed to get a piece of dirt under it) and when I took it off to put another one, the screen looked as good as the day I bought it, aside from the damn scratches from the stylus before I bought the writerights.

I just got my gf a IIIx for Christmas and I put a protector on it before anything else.

To reiterate the answer to your question, no, when you pull them off they leave the screen perfectly clean.

I'm not sure whether I'm repeating something that you may know already, but I find that the 19mm #811 (bluebox) removeable Scotchtape on the graffiti input area fits *perfectly* and works very well to prevent scratches where the stylus contacts the screen the most. You can get a roll of it for less than $4 and it'll last you for a very long time! (I only need to change mine every 2-3 months or so, and you can even share the cost of the roll with a few of your PalmPilot or Visor equipped friends!)

The remainder of the screen can be kept quite scratch-free by regularly wiping dust particles off the screen and cleaning the stylus tip. With time, you may (and will!) get a few small scratches that are only noticeable if you really look, but by then a year or two would have passed and you will be looking at upgrading to the latest and newest model anyway.

Here, try this:

Background: I bought the rainbow five pack, sanded off the tip with 420 grit sandpaper, yet noticed small scratches beginning to appear after switching from the stock cheesy black plastic stylus.

Solution: 1. Take the screwdriver out of the back of the metal stylus. 2. Mount the darn thing in my drill press, set at a medium speed. 3. Polish the heck out of it with the 420 grit paper. 4. Reassemble and use!

Hey, how do ya like that?! Now, I don't have the darn texturing or the scratchy mold lines on the sides of the thing to mess up my new BVD! It seems to have worked well.

The *BEST* thing I've found for getting rid of the molding ridges in the standard stylus is fiber optic polishing paper. Sure you can start out with regular 420 grit sandpaper to get the worst off, but then go down to 15 micron and then 1 micron fiber optic paper and you'll end up with a smooth, shiny tip to the stylus. Just remember to keep the paper wet and don't press hard. Lots of random motion with little pressure is the best techique.

i took visordoc's advice and picked up a box of Scotch-brand Removable Tape.

while it looks kinda goofy, it really allows you to write aggressively in the grafitti area!

by the way, the removable tape now comes in a dispenser pack (like the traditional tape). only paid 99 cents for the roll. so, how can you go wrong...
