email access

I read these threads and feel so far behind. I bought my Deluxe almost a year ago. One of the most attractive things to me was to have an instant on, right where you left it computer with access to the my email as well. I feel naked without it now. But one of the heartbreaks to me was buying the modem and not having access to my Hotmail. I've got Advantgo and now ThinAir, but nothing comes with great instructions for this dummy. I thought maybe I should give up on Hotmail and go for using my Yahoo account, but no cigar. I can get on with my ISP, and to MSN or Yahoo, but when I try to get my email I get a message from them that my browser does not support their requirments. Going from My Channels I get "Error 5453-cannot find server or DNS error"

I travel worldwide and must change ISPs with each site. I'm using "Jaring" here in Malaysia. Like I said, no trouble geting to the net, just web mail.

Anybody speak "dummy" out there?

It's been a couple of weeks since I contacted Thinair, Handspring and Avantgo about this. I brought up the point about the IP with ThinAir. No feedback there, but they did confuse me with two different responses. One said that I could not get webmail using ThinAir on my Delux, that only units using the latest OS (Prisim ect)could do that. The next response said that the Delux "could indeed" access webmail with ThinAir.

But they did bring up the fact that I do not have ThinAir loaded into my Delux properly. I have no access to setup because there is no icon for ThinAir. Is this the problem with the OS of the Delux? I tried deleting ThinAir and reloading it, but still no icon.

Avantgo said they are working with Yahoo to make webmail available soon. Which brings up another point. If I can ever get the ThinAir icon on my Visor, and if I can indeed access webmail with that, will Avantgo still be my browser?

im not sure if i understand your problem.

1. you have a modem for the visor! the original modem by handspring or a xircom etc..?
1.1there should be email and browsing software delivered with your modem?!
2. you have an isp with a dial in number and you have an account (pop3)?!
2.1 you have an avantgo account?
3. set up your modem in the preferences on the visor.

now you should use an email client like proximail (freeware) etc... check with this client your pop3 server. does this work properly?

try to get proximail for example at www.handango.com or at palmgear.com.

if is it not available there i can email it to you.

if you have proximail you have to enter your email settings in the preferences.

i think, yahoo is a pop account in malaysia too, so
under pop:
pop.mail.yahoo...

smtp:
smtp.mail.yahoo...

and your personal settings.

set country in your prefs to "other" (if it is possible), not "u.s".

hope this helps.

I went to both Palmgear and Handango. Couldn't find Proximail, so if you would please email it, I'd be grateful.
Thanx,

Try another browser...

I've heard of people having trouble accessing webmail using Avantgo. I know I can't get at my Yahoo! account with it. Try using another browser...I've been using Browse-it without a problem.

I hit the link to paltopmagazin and what actually downloaded was Smart Doc. Looks like a nice program, but it's not proximail.

This Browse-it sounds workable, but I couldn't find it in Palmgear either.

going nuts here.

OK, I'm back. I struggled and struggled until I finally everything recognized and I got to Yahoo. When I went to get my mail, Yahoo didn't like my username/password. It didn't say which. I plugged in h2odrdon with and without @yahoo.com, and I know the password is my yahoo password. What am I missing?

You can download Browse-It from www.intellisync.com

It's a great program... I haven't tried connecting to Yahoo/Hotmail, although it does support 128-bit encryption, if I'm not mistaken.

your settings are correct? pop.mail.yahoo.com and smtp.....? what about the password/username entries entries in proximail?

connect your visor to the internet?

can you get your email over the internet? by going to www.yahoo.com, entering your username and passwort? if so, you have incorrect settings on the handspring, if not your password and/or username is wrong ....

have you set your isp tel. number, username and password?

Yes, all that is correct, Including my username and password in Proximail. As I said, I can get to the internet fine. Yahoo from the Visor just doesn't like the username/password. It's fine from my notebook.

Somebody mentioned that not having cookies enabled might do this. Any ideas there?

Knoppi,

Sorry I hit a wrong key and lost your message. Yes, I did resolve my email access by getting Browse-it loaded. Now that I've done that I see more value in the Prisim. A little difficult to see all I want to see on my Delux. Happy birthday to me a little early, I orderwd my Prisim yesterday.

OK, I'm back again.
I finally got my Hotmail with Browse-it on my Delux. Happy to prove that could do that, I made the next step and invested in the Prisim. Now I can't get even the Intellisync link to work. I can still get connected OK but can't go anywhere. I still have the Delux and I can still get my hotmail with it. I've contacted Intellisync and they say that I cannot get Hotmail with Browse-it. Duh. I already can... on the Delux. No response to that point or the point about any other bookmark not working.

Error message A311
Could not encrypt incoming data.
By the way, ThinAir says they are for Omni Phone only. Anybody able to get Hotmail with a wired Handspring modem on a Prisim? I'm thinking of trying Blazer next.

Now Intellisync tells me that it is not possible to get Hotmail with Browse-it.

Duh. I'm already there with the Delux.

I tried to load ThinAir on the Prisim. (on the Delux I never got an Icon, but I could see it in "info". so on the Prisim, I got the icon only. Nothing in "info". And the icon does nothing. I had to do a hard reset to dumo the worthless icon. and ThinAir says they are for Omnisky wireless modems only. Huh?

I'm using a Handspring wired modem, or trying to.

I purchased a xircom GA56 modem recently and experienced the same problems trying to access my hotmail account using msn mobile and avantgo. Eventually I got it working by setting up an avantgo channel to MobileMail at http://m.bobhuang.com (may soon be moving to http://www.gopherking.com)

I really like the service, it's free and offers much more than just email access (see list below). Might be worth a try.

That does sound good. I don't use alot of channels and was mostly concerned about just getting my mail, but I can see some value there.

I did finally resolve my problem, I think. I can get it one time and not the next. This week I tried and failed twice, with a server problem if I recall. Then I fired up my notebook and got right in.

I think I will try this. I would think it would be easy to improve on what performance I got.

I think I may also have a problem with my ISP here in Malaysia. Not always consistant. Sometimes I can't get anywhere, so I disconnect and come back on and get right in.
