Question

I have a blue Visor Deluxe and love it. Using Pocket Mirror it syncs perfectly with Outlook 2000. Since I am now an expert, a friend of mine called me up to help him get his Visor synchronized. No luck. Did everything recommended in this forum... still no luck. The only difference with his setup is he has an AMD chip. Suggestions anyone?

I don't think it is the AMD. I have 3 AMD powered pc's I sync up to with no problems.

If his chipset is VIA then he should go to www.via.com.tw and download the latest drivers.

Sorry I don't have the link on me, but there IS a problem with WIndows 98SE and AMD chips when it comes to USB. If he has another USB device, tell him to remove it and only run the one.

At any rate it would be good to get the fix, quite possibly on AMD's site and probably on Microsoft's. I used the fix and haven't had any problems with USB, so I guess it does work (if in fact I would have had a problem in the first place).

Check anandtech.com for a possible (archived) story on the AMD/USB/win98SE issue.

I have an AMD chip and synch just fine, but here is what I DID do wrong when I first got my Visor, maybe this will help: I tried to synch without installing the Visor drivers off the CD that came with it. That messed up my hardware profiles and I had to delete the visor connection on the usb port in the Start/Settings/Control Panel/System/Device Manager and reinstall the driver from scratch. This worked for me and I could suddenly synch. I really had to play with it as I'm a tinkerer and not an expert, so good luck!
