Hi! I just ordered my handspring visor last nite because I got extreemely irated with my cheapo casio organizer with a screen the size of my thumb and a keypad that pressed 3 letters at the same time. After reading a couple of the posts here I'm wondering what accessories I'll need. For ease in reading, my questions are as follows:

1) I've heard the original stylus scratches the screen. Has that been fixed? And also, what are the benefits of investing in another stylus? Honestly, I don't particulary want to get another one because I'm a bit disorganized and it'd be a pain to remember another stylus that wasn't already with the visor.

2) I've heard of all sorts of screen protections, I'm looking for something not to expensive but will protect the screen pretty well. I've read about a couple of the homemade ones but what seems to work best? I want to cover the whole screen as the visor will most likely be hanging out in my backpack and get a bit of abuse from my friends.

3) I think I am going to need a case that can stand up to being in my shoulder bag/backpack all day. Which is not the easiest place to be. Preferably something not to bulky, but that will do the job. How is the snap on cover it comes with? Does that protect it well or is it worth it to go for another case?

I read a bunch of other post but the recomendations seem to be more for the excutive person who has their own desk and such, the visor will be with me on the go, in my car and shoulder bag. Okay, thanks in advance!

Best stylus PDA panache, the stock stylus is too light.

I'm using a shocksuit case from Rhino skin to protect my visor from my two year old. Good case, use the enclosed packing foam for the clip to tighten the fit, I bet though if you buy the case directly from Rhino skin it'll fit perfectly. Bought mine from Outpost and it may be a Palm III model one. Now if only I could hotsync and never have to take it out of the case........

Best screensaver is wright right order the PDA survial kit from Outpost.com $26 bucks free shipping! I used the wright right that fits the Palm III seems to be the consenus for best fit. The kit gives you other wright rights that fit other PDA's if your send them back to concept kitchen in the enclose mailer they will send your correct right wrigths. No mailer email Concept Kitchen CS and they will correct the problem.

By the way in the software category must have is Backupbuddy. Worth the money to protect the time invested in loading programs.

I echo Bob's comments. PDA Panache stylus is a must. The slip leather case included (if you ordered a Deluxe) would probably do the trick for you though it does not protect the top edge. My current favorite for full protection w/out bulk is the Devian DVP7 model. Made for PalmIII but fits the visor perfectly.

For screen protection-I've tried virtually everything. I'm now using 'easy peels' from www.easypeel.com Works great and is cheap at $5 for 4

Also agree that BackupBuddy is a must!

You may have already equipped your Visor by now, but here are my $.02:

1) I haven't really had problems with the stock stylus, even though I used it without screen protection for a couple of months. A couple of barely detectable scratches. If you're going to use screen protection anyway, I don't think the stock stylus will be a problem. The benefits of a custom stylus will primarily be ergonomic. If you do buy one you might want to get one that is designed to fit in the Visor's stylus silo so that remembering it wouldn't be a problem.

2) Writerights seem a little expensive to me so I've tried a couple of other things. I am using a regular transparency sheet cut about the height of the screen and just a tad wider and tucked under the edges of the surrounding frame. Had to loosen the screws on the back a little. It looks and feels just about the same as an unprotected screen. I tried Easy Peel, but I didn't really like the texture. The stylus seemed to kind of stick to it. Maybe that would be different if I bought a custom stylus.

3) I think the snap cover provides pretty good protection if you are carrying it inside a bag of some kind, especially if you put it in a relatively small pocket or compartment and/or use the Deluxe's leather slipcase, and don't play rugby with your bag.

Thanks to everyone who replied for their advice, it was much appreciated. I bought one of the "special" stylus' from handspring, I didn't particuarly like the style of the PDA Panache and plus it looked awfully heavy and I really didn't mind if my stylus didn't write JUST like a pen. I'm going to try what you recommended, the transparencies, hopefully they'll work just fine. And after finding a bunch of pictures of the hardcase it comes with it seems to protect just fine, if it doesn't and I have worries I think I'm gonna get the rhinoskin shocksuit. Thanks again to everyone that replied! Ohh and I don't play rugby...I play football (the american kind)...not professionally of course...just fooling around with my friends. Did you know how hard it is to play linebacker when your female and playing with all guys? Next time I get dibs on QB

hobbes16, for screen protection I find that the area that needs the most protection is the graffiti area because that's where scribblings occur the most. Which is why I use Scotch "Removable" Magic Tape #811, which *perfectly* covers the graffiti area. It also provides an excellent pen-on-paper feel and avoids an additional layer that you have to peer through on the display area.

I echo the scotch tape method. It fits right over the graffti area & "feels" so much better than without. A real "pen on paper" feel. Cheep too! Also, I've been using a Cross stylus without any scratching on the main screen.
