Every now and then the sync will hang right in the middle (usually trying to sync either AvantGo or MultiMail). I've done everything from a clean system restore to reinstalling Palm desktop from scratch (which sucks, because I then have to go in and re-enter everyone's birthday to get the warning attachment on the desktop after deleting them from the calander). I'm using an edge, OS 9.0.4, and my conduits are install, wordsmith, to do list, multimail, memo pad, hottime, datebook, and avantgo. The best luck I've had is replacing the User Data and User Data Archive files with saved back-ups. Thankfully no duplicate records have been formed. Any ideas on why and/or solutions?

Might help

I used to have some problems syncing with my Mac. Here are the different items I went through to check.

1) Make sure you are using the best suited hotsync update for 9.0.4. They came out with an update for OS9.

2) Might wnt to upgrade to 9.1. I have and have never had smoother hotsyncs.

3) Delete all programs that are IR based espasialy IR printing programs. There is a IR extension program that Handspring's help desk can tell you to look for and delete. Use beambox to look at all all of the program pieces to find them.

4) Check the hotsync connections (the copper things) for corrosion. This turned out to be my problem. Thanks to bestbuy's extended warranty I was all set a couple of hours later.

Hope that this helps

I've had similar problems. It seems to be related to conduits that need to access the Internet. Mine always craps out at Avantgo. The Hotsync just stops on the Mac - no beep, no error message, nothing. It just quietly stops.

This doesn't happen all of the time...about 10% of the time for me. I have a DSL line so it is unlikely related to the computer trying to dial a modem to connect to the Internet.

One thing I did notice is that, for me, this problem seems to occur more offten if I have Netscape running when I try and Hotsync. Don't know why.

My guess is that Mac OS 9.0.4 is not as stable as 8.6 was. And this problem is just one example of it. I'm going to upgrade to 9.1 soon as I have other stability problems with 9.0.4.
