back to school

I start University of Phoenix tomorrow. Time to buckle down and make something of myself. No more galivanting. I fear my life shall become boring. I haven't chased skirts (me and my wife were each other's first), don't drink often (although amber bock is quite nice), don't smoke often (once every six months I'll have a cigar - black and mild), don't do drugs, this is the first job I've had over a year, I haven't had a traffic ticket for over six months, and now I can't screw around with my schooling. I'm 23 and my life is over. Maybe I'll take on a mistress.

That's a hell of a commute from SD, ain't it?

I seem to recall UPhoenix specializing in online classes...

Getting a little philosophical, I believe it was Lao Tse who said

A good traveller has no fixed plans and is not intent on arriving

Or, as a biker friend of mine put it:

It's the ride, man!

Don't worry about life being over or getting boring. It never will be. Trust me.

If you feel you need to go to college, then go for something you really enjoy learning. That could be Comp Sci, or it could be English. In the long run, it isn't the degree that matters, but what you learn about yourself & the world around you.

God, I'm starting to sound like someone's grandfather.

Yeah, but the virtual bus gets some incredible gas mileage.

I hope so. It does limit what I've been previously able to screw around doing, though.

I've heard that UPhoenix overstructures their stuff. If you find their program too constrictive, Capella has a decent compsci program. I worked for them for about a year in their business dept.

I totally agree!!

Life didn't get even interesting until I was 27 or 28.. 23, you're just a kid..

At 23 I was making sure my folks hair had turned fully white..

How so? It seems to be what I expected. I'm working on getting everything going on my handera. My desktop goals have changed from upgrading Old Reliable to getting a mac of some stripe. Regardless, I see the handera (and possibly its replacement) as a better alternative than a desktop WRT to function vs. portability. It also has a greater probability of being used next year compared to my desktop.

have I mentioned I'm pretty jealous of the functionality you've managed to squeeze out of that little sucker?

As the old married woman mascot of the group, let me advise against the mistress idea!!

Perhaps you need a vacation...

Thanks, but I'm still working on the 'biggies.' I did get it syncing quite well with linux, but I haven't been able to download any random file onto separate memory expansion because I 1.)don't have the modem yet and, 2) haven't had the software that could do it (Tapliner 2.0 is in beta and will [suposedly] have that functionality). The modem is also going to be necessary to get the University newsgroups on it - as is a dial-up acc't. Then maybe for some wireless home networking. Or a beer.

With the mistress? Actually, my wife was there when I posted the mistress idea. She's gotten too even-tempered around me and I thought I'd try to rattle her cage a bit. She's getting used to me; that will never do.

Anyway, we're going down to see dad (the one from the first post of the ramble) in July. That's the deadline to get schooling working on the handera.

Couldn't be better. It's amazing how everything came together. It's somewhat like he's been there since day 1.
