Question

This board has been instrumental in my purchase of a new BVDx (ordered Jan. 1oth, received today - hell yeah!).

Anyways, now that I've got it out and running I cannot seem to get the hardware working to be able to HotSync. I've got the cradle plugged into my USB port on the back of my Gateway, have installed the software on my desktop, then I go to hit the HotSync button, I get a message that my computer can't detect a hardware driver and when I browse for one on all drives (including the CD) it comes up empty and says it can't find it. I know this is probably a really dumb question, but I hope someone can help me out.

Also, wanted to say that I took some advice from the board and used the nonadhesive sticker included with the VDx in order to cover up my graffiti area for the time being until my PDAPanache arrives - works great!

First off, ignore the message. Press cancel when it comes up. It shouldn't come up again. After that the HotSync Manager should work (probably not during that hotsync attempt, but during the next one). You are running Windows 98, right?

Unhappy

Thanks for the help, frasej! I did cancel the device driver, but now I'm not getting any response from my computer at all when trying to hotsync - my VD just says it can't connect. The manager is on and looks to be working fine, but it seems my computer is just not detecting the VD through the USB port? Any other suggestions?

pbray,

You might want to check the BIOS settings to make sure the USB port is enabled in the hardware.

Try resetting your BVD. There's a small hole on the back of the Visor that you stick a paper clip into (the PDA Panache comes with a reset pin - very cool). After you reset, try pressing the HotSync button again on the cradle.

I had all kinds of problems the first time I tried to HotSync, and after wasting my whole Thanksgiving trying various things, the soft reset saved the day. That beepy sound the Visor makes when it starts syncing was music to my ears after all that trouble. Good luck!

Still not having any luck - I tried the soft reset as well as enabling the USB in the BIOS. Neither did the trick and, in fact, now when I go to BIOS, it's totally locked up... Seems there's something crazy going on w/ MS Win98 as I saw another post with same problem - Hope I can figure this out soon - can't wait to get this stuff loading!

Cool

Well, I finally figured it out! I called tech support this morning and as luck would have it - I got right through. The guy was extremely helpful and walked me through a fix that has worked so far. What I did:
1. Go to Run on the START key - type REGEDIT
2. Go to: HIKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Enum/USB
3. Deleted all but ROOT_HUB
4. Uninstall palm software
5. Reboot and reinstall
6. Give it a shot!

I run Win98 and I'm not saying this might fix anyone else's problem, but it worked for me! Thanks everyone for the help...
