Question

I just bought my prism yesterday and I love it. I need to get wireless service that will be predominatley used in the Orange County/Los Angeles area. Does anyone have any experience or comments on the different services i.e yadayada, omnisky, avantgo? Also, will any of them let me browse the web with color graphics. That would be nice, but the main goal is stock quotes and pop3 e-mail.

Thanks

It's great to see so many people taking the wireless plunge, this must be the third reponse I have to a post like this today. As an early adopter and owner of both YY and OS I can say YY is by far the superior service. For your needs it will be well suited: email, you can aggregate up to 6 POP3 accounts and bring them down wirelessly. Stock quotes they have you covered with a portolfio feature on the my YY page that can track profit and loss, etc. Color support will be available in the upcoming release. I have spent time in LA with my service and it works very well.

Question

That is strange. I went to the YY website yesterday and input my zip code only to find service was not available in Orange County accoriding to my zip. Do you have any feedback or specific drawbacks with Omnisky.

I just got off the phone with a YY rep. He said that the site was incorrect, and they do service Orange County.

I'm looking at your message and trying to figure out what it is that is the "Far superior service".

Everything you have mentioned can be done with OS as well.

Multiple POP accounts, access to my Yahoo portal account for all Stock quotes, portfolio etc... Color support is supposed to be availble with an upcoming release etc....

Plus using additional software gives access to even more pop accounts, web access, telnet etc...

OS and YY use the same Cell services here in Phoenix though YY doesn't seem to think there is any service in my area for some reason.

Other than an apparently better browser which I have not seen yet, please provide better examples of what makes YY more superior... I obviously have not tried them side by side like you, but you haven't provided anything that is far superior from what I can tell...

sorry about that:
well YY browser can access over 90% of all web pages out there including frames and graphics. OS can only do about 50%.
YY will have wireless sync soon.
Alerts coming soon as well.
My yadayada page is great, my news, sports, weather, stocks, etc.
Quicksnaps are great because they are integrated with the browser rather then as a separate app if you install avantgo.
I prefer YY launcher to OS, more ease of use with drag and drop, folder hierarchies, and trash feature.
All in all Y has a more integrated soluion that is tied together with great short-cuts and their product road map sounds alot more compelling then OS.

YY support for frames (or lack there of)

I posted this in a other post about wireless service for the bay area.

I emailed yada yada asking questions about what made them different from OS because I was trying to decide which one was best for me. I mentioned that I liked the idea of frame support, and the rep who emailed me back said this:

Thank you for your interest in Yada Yada.
Our web browser does enable you to surf any website that is available. It will display pictures as well as text. It does not support frames at this time.
A coverage map can be found at novatelwireless.com/coverage.index.htm

Like I said before, I donno if he's full of it or if he's right.

You can email them too if you like.
