Unhappy Visor Screen & battery Kaput!

Dear all,

I need help. My screen is dim, and my battery won't charge!

About two months ago I put my Visor Prism in the cupboard while I tried out a friend's Treo.

Now I'm coming back to the flock :-) but something is wrong with my Prism.

First, the Prism is dead. Apparently I forgot to turn off all my alarms, so it had spent the battery's juice in sounding all the alarms.

Second, when I've put it in the cradle, the screen is dim; usually I can put the brightness slider about 2/3 to the left and it would be bright enough. Now I have to slide it all the way to 2/3 to the right.

Also, the battery won't charge. I've put it in the cradle for more than 24 hours now, and it still is only 1/5 full.

What happened? How can these things happened (the lamp dying, the battery dying) just from being left in a cupboard?

Is it angry with me for leaving it in the dark, dark cupboard? :-)

Please help me. I want my Prism back the way it was. :-)

The battery probably got damaged by being too deeply discharged. see:
http://www.pstec.de/ppp/pppm500/pppm500.html#T4

You can get a used(!) battery from www.gethightech.com for $50.

Bummer

Also make sure your unit is "remembering" to charge itself. When placed in the cradle, the green light should be blinking to indiciate that it is charging. If the green light is on solid it is not charging and it thinks its full. Try performing a soft reset while the unit is sitting in the cradle... that should force it to start charging itself again.

I use a non-Handspring charger cable at work, but for some reason when I use it now, it doesn't charge the battery. I have to take it home to my cradle and to the soft reset thing to make it charge again. It's a pain, but give it a try.

deep discharged battery

Thanks for the help, guys.

I'll try it out. Hopefully it won't be too damaged.

PS: I heard new Palm units with OS 5 are coming out this Christmas. Is that true?

This is sort of related to your screen problem:

I turned my visor prism on today and the screen looks like it went kaput on me. It is in three different colors and I can only see half the screen now because the other half is shaded in green and orange. Has something died on my prism? Resets didn't work. The screen stays the same when I reset it. In other words, I still can't see half the screen as it goes through its boot up. I didn't drop it, I didn't get it wet, it didn't overheat. Just looks like the screen has died on me. Anyone ever hear of this or know how to correct the problem, if it can be corrected? Already looking at purchasing another one.
Thanx
Charles

Maybe the screen cable got loose. Do you dare open it up?

I've purchased another one, so I may be bold and open it up. I've been meaning to get a new one anyway, so I have nothing to lose in opening it. Wish me luck!
Peace

Unhappy Screen problems

Hi,
I broke the digitizer on my prism. Yep, I broke it.
Now I am being punished by by the evil money grubbers at Handspring because they won't sell me the part.
Gethightech.com sells the part but they've been out of it for over a month. Besides, they make you buy the whole screen assembly anyway. They sell the digitizer for the B/W versions but not the prism. Why?
If anyone has had the bad luck of breaking their prism screen and or digitizer and knows other sources of parts I would be eternally gratefull.

Give these guys a call:
http://www.palmpilotupgrade.com/prices.html

They could even upgrade you to 16MB while they are at it.
