I think the plastic protective cover for the Visor is a bit bulky and possibly unncesessary. I carry my Visor Deluxe in the leather case w/o the plastic protective cover on it. Anybody else care to comment on whether or not they use the protective cover? Thanks.

I use the plastic cover sometimes, depending on a few factors. Here's my algorithm:

1. On the way to & from work: Cover on, VDx in the slipcover, carried in pants pocket. (I usually wear loose-fitting pants.)

2. At work, if I'm wearing a shirt with a breast pocket: VDX without cover or slipcover, carried in breast pocket.

3. At work, without breast pocket (polo shirt) : VDx with cover, without slipcover, caried in pants pocket.

My favorite situation is "2". Visor is ready to go at all times. The only advantage to "3" is that I feel a little more comfortable in a polo shirt, but the VDx is making me rethink that.

If I'm only going to use 1 cover, I use the plastic one. I'm more worried about screen protection than shock protection.

I rarely use both covers and save the slip cover for wearing in the breast pocket of dress shirts. The hard cover is great because with it I can carry my Visor in my pants pocket.

Notice those four nibs on the case? I think it was intended to be on the back of the visor more than the front. I usually keep the cover on the back and put the Visor in the leather case and pants pocket. The cover helps keep the Visor tight in the case.

I don't even know where the slip cover is now... I use the plastic cover because I carry my visor in my front left pocket.

The plastic cover provides the most protection, which is what I'm most concerned with.

Just wondering...has anyone at the office commented... "is that a Visor in your pocket or are you just happy to see me?"

I bought the slim leather case from Handspring with the same type of retaining device as the standard plastic cover. It's padded slightly and will provide minor shock protection. The front cover flap is stiffened somewhat (though not nearly as protective as the plastic cover) but if you insert some plastic (credit) cards in the provided pocket(s), they'll help add protection to the screen. I keep my unit in my coat pocket and I find that this case offers the best overall combination of screen protection and accessability (release velcro, flip open) for the money.

Thumbs up

I've had my Visor a few days and like the belt clip case I ordered. The screen faces the hard plastic back of the case (toward your body when worn) and is fully protected.

I'm totally mobil all day. You could say my office is my van. I can reach down and easily slip out my visor (not while driving) and use it to check to do's, etc. I carry it in to customer's offices to jot a note or take an order as a to-do or memo.

I also have a Rhino Skin case which ultimately will protect somewhat better (especially in the rain) but the swivel mount puts the Visor farther away from my body than the Handspring-furnished belt clip case. Using the Rhino Skin I keep the Visor in the case while making entries or reading data. It does stay better protected in the Rhino Skin case if I were to drop it.

The clip on the belt clip case is large enough to allow for quite a lot of swivel and allows easy repositioning of the Visor fore and aft on my belt to get at my pocket or get the Visor more out of the way. The swivel mount clip on my Rhino Skin case fits tightly to the belt and doesn't allow for sliding fore and aft.

You may like the belt clip case if you need to carry your Visor all the time. BTW, I have my pager and Nextel i1000 cell phone on the other hip. It's nerdy but I'm always in touch with my customers.

I am sorry about that multiple post. I was on the phone and did not realize that I had the enter key pressed! Sorry :-(
tonerguy, I am planning to purchase the beltclip. Have a few questions:
1. Does the visor fit snugly in it?
2. Can you hot sync with the cover on?

Here is what the cover is good for:

1. Frisbee
2. Nothing
3. Thowing Away
4. Ice Cream Scoop
5. Door Jam

My father got a Visor for Christmas and was very disapointed in the cover. He is used to his Palm III flip up cover. Hopefully someone will come up with a better solution.

By the way,

I have had my Palm Pilot for 3 years now.....no cover...I just keep it in my belt clip case which I do wear all day, everyday. (what a geek I am) My visor should be here next week. Anyone want to buy an extra cover?

Heyday

Visorhead,

1. Yes the belt clip case fits perfectly and securely.

2. You could HotSync to a Serial cable but it won't fit in the USB cradle while in the belt clip case.

I found another use for this cover while in my vehicle.

I bought two "Cell Station" Magnetic Cell-Phone Holders (From Tech Media Industries, 800-329-8299)and positioned them on either side of my dash to the left and right of my steering wheel. I have a Nextel i1000 cell-phone and wanted to be able to put it securely out of the way in the car.

The little kit includes a rectangular 1" x 1-1/2" x 1/8" magnet with a spongy peel and stick backing. There is also one peel and stick thin metal plate (5/8" x 1-1/4") which can be put on the back of the cell phone to really improve the magnetic hold.

It worked so well for the phone I thought I'd try it on the Visor plastic belt clip case.

I put one of the adhesive metal plates horizontally just below the bottom of the belt clip on the back.

Now I can take my Visor and stick it securely to the magnet on my dash where I can remove it from the case (leaving case on dash) whenever I stop to answer a page and take notes, an order or todo (happens 10-20 times a day). It has replaced my notebook.

The magnet is strong and I have no concern about the Visor falling during anything short of a real fender bender.

The thin metal plate is unobtrusive and doesn't interfere at all with wearing the case on my belt.

BTW, Diddlebug (freeware) lets me write freely on the screen such things as names, phone numbers and items wanted while listening to my voice mail. Sometimes I have to listen twice to get it all down, but I had to do that while writing in my old notebook.
