SMS & Voicestream

If I am roaming and send an SMS message does that count against my minutes? Or do they charge extra for that? Or does that just count as one of my 50 free ping-pong messages?

I don't know how roaming affects Ping Pong messages, but I just got my (screwed up, for the third straight time ) bill and Voicestream is announcing that beginning Sept. 3 they will charge 5 cents for ALL outgoing SMS messages.

Does it matter? It takes minimum 15 minutes for my colleagues to receive one if I send. Not too dependable. Their connection to the WWW must be crap!

Haven't gotten my first bill yet, should be interesting...

Here is the response I got from Voicestream:

Thank you for taking the time to contact VoiceStream Wireless.
If you are roaming outside of your VoiceStream Home Coverage
Area, you will be charged one minute of airtime for each message.
Please note that your 50 free Ping Pong messages are for incoming
messages only.
If you have any other comments, questions or concerns, please feel free
to contact us anytime.
Thank you for choosing VoiceStream Wireless.
Sincerely,

I have had some messages delivered immediately, but some have been delayed more than is reasonable. I agree that it is not very dependable.

Angry Message Size Sucks Also

Also, Voicestream allows only 145 characters in their SMS messages. This is barely enought to get sports updates! Nextel allows you to type up to 500 characters in their SMS from their website. And Nextel uses TDMA/GSM system! Voicestream is the weakest link in the VisorPhone deal.
