Interesting question... I'd liketo know myself. Of course, it would probably be difficult to use the Visor while it's in the cradle.

I think you would need a null-modem adapter to do that, but otherwise, I think it should work.

Question

I have the serial cradle and are trying to connect to Garmin 12 GPS with no luck yet, I have garmin to serial cable thru null modem block thru gender changer into visor serial plug. ANy suggestions are welcome. Using gpspilot.com software. Demo version.
Any suggestions are welcome

One of the possible problems is that the visor uses TTL level signals (around 3V), while most serial devices use 5..12V signaling. Check out this thread for more information... the last post is actually from a guy who hooked up his GPS.

[I think all this is telling me that the serial cradle has to get power from something to turn on signal converter. I am guessing this is what happens when you push the hot sync button and stays on with visor battery power until the hot sync is done, Can anyone out there tell me how to modify the stock visor cradle to stay powered by an external battery while I use the GPS? Am I getting this all wrong? Not an EE but a ME
