Prism Recharge Problem
A Handspring Technical Support person stated that it was theoretically possible for a conflict to occur while simultaneously charging and HotSynching.
Another Handspring Technical Support person stated that one should remove the Prism from the cradle after completion of charging, and not leave it in the cradle overnight.
On more direct questioning, both people stated that these were their theories about my particular problem, and that they have not had contact with other Prism customers with the same problem.
Compac's Windows CE book says don't leave theirs on the cradle more than 5 minutes after fully charging!
All I can tell you is don't try this at home, kids.
HotSynching the PDR via serial cradle while recharging when the USB cradle has a Handspring Visor Deluxe in it is a bad combination.
Just ask Richard Prior, who, when asked how he caught on fire, said:
"I mixed Oreo cookies and Non-Fat milk."
Clearly, these problems are that of an abuser. I use the Handspring more than anyone. I overload it with 32MB worth of medical stuff, type and edit tons of documents, print, beam, capture images, and generally overclock the system with about 150 3rd-party software programs.
I crash and burn more often than most users turn their PDAs on.
The Prism has been recharged three times today, but then again, I've been hammering it all day.
Handspring is a robust system, and it can take the heat.
But sometimes it can only take so much.
I'll try to be gentler and not challenge it so much by leaving it in the cradle when it's topped off.
And I promise to never again HotSynch while charging.
In sum, I don't think these are problems to the moderate, social user.
Bruce, The PDA P.A.
