Question

I am interested in the Total Recall voice recorder, but had a few questions.

1. Does it stick out of the top?
2. Does it come with the external battery mobile unit?
3. Does it have a volume control?
4. Does it have an earplug jack?
5. Can you pause during a long recording?
6. Does it drain Visor batteries quickly?

Any other opinions would be appreciated.

Craig

CraigV, I've been looking on the Targus website and I can't even find the device by model number (PA600U) nor the name.

The only place that even seems to have a picture of it is at the Palmgear site and it says it's available for sale.

I spoke with a customer service rep from Targus this week and she said the Total Recall will not be available until mid-December. She still did not know which retailers will carry it.

As I posted in another thread, here is the email I got back from Targus regarding the total Recall:

Dear Springboards,

I have forwarded your message to our direct sales department. They can be reached at 800 242 3133. There have been slight delays in the product shipment due to technical reasons. Please accept our apology in advance for
the inconvenience this may have caused you.

Regards,

John Sargent, VP Communications for Targus

Ok, I found it on Palm Gear. Ordered it last night, and got an email that it is on backorder. Translate to it's VAPORGEAR!

Lightbulb Info available on the OEM's web site

Targus is not the acutal manufacturer of the Total Recall device (much like they are not the manufacturer of the Stowaway keyboard). The OEM, Digital5, has more detailed information (though I wish it were even MORE detailed than it is) on their web site.

Does anyone know if the Total Recorder will translate voice memos into text, or does it just save audio files?

Also, can the unused portion of the 4 mg memory be used for things other than voice recordings?

When and if anyone actually gets their hands on one of these, please post a notice. I am eager to get this module, when available. Thanks.

To answer part of the original question, it appears to stick a tad above the top of the visor and a little out the back. The literature suggests that it comes with the separate battery pack, so you can use it separately from the visor, it has an earphone jack. The other three questions.....I don't know

The Total Recall has both a speaker and an earphone jack. They are pictured in the PDF document on Digital5's web site (http://www.digital5.com/targus.html).

in that case, does anyone know if you can use the module & speaker for built in apps like alarms, etc, besides the stuff you actually record on the module?

I don't think that it comes ready for those types of things (they would advertise that, those are interesting features). But that doesn't mean that it CAN'T be done. Digita5 has a Developer's Kit that would allow someone to add that kind of functionality.

According to PalmGear H.Q., the Total Recall will only save the audio files; it does not do Voice-to-Text (either on the Visor, or on the desktop). Makes me wonder what the heck that blurb about dictation was about in the Digital5 PDF spec sheet.
