A newbie needs help

Hi, I'm new to this forum.
I have a Visor Delux and been using it for a couple of weeks. Now, out of the blues, this Visor didn't couldn't turn on. After replacing the batteries several times, it turned on with this logo like on the screen reading Palm Computing Platform and freezes there and cannot be turned off. I have to remove the batteries to turn it off. When it's on the screen doesn't work either with the stylus. Can someone please help me before I'll switch it to an exploded view. Tried to find something on its manual and on their site but all I've got left as an option is this forum.

A couple of quick things to try would be a hard reset to really wipe the memory, and to disassemble it and make sure the connections (particularly the connector between the motherboard/memory) are good.

Thank you dtrego, I will disassemble it and try the connections. I have already tried a hard reset but it seems that even that doesn't work. The logo still appears on the screen. Even when I remove the batteries and put them back again and press any button, the logo comes up again.

Oops! I didn't mean the motherboard/memory connection - thinking about the old Palm Pilots, there. I should have said the motherboard/button board (the button board plugs in to the motherboard). Also, you can reseat the ribbon cable that goes from the motherboard to the screen. Not sure that either will help, but it's worth a try.

I tried both of them, come to think, I don't think it's a connection problem because when I press any button the logo comes up on the screen so, connection between batteries, motherboard and display have no problems. I tried both soft and hard reset, in both options the logo comes up but nothing else can be done. To turn it off I have to remove a battery and place back again.

When you had the Visor apart, were there any signs that the batteries had leaked/corroded? There may be some damage to the etched side of the button board. Do all the buttons feel like they're working (ie, do they bounce back after you push them, or do any of them have no tactile feedback at all)? Other than that, I'm out of ideas unless you can get ahold of another and swap parts until you determine which board is bad - spare parts are available from a few places if you think it's worth fixing.

No nothing seems wrong with the buttons, etched parts and so on. I think it must be replaced, I don't think it's worth it to repair it, it's cheap stuff. I think the boards just went nuts.

Did you ever check your new batteries, after you take them out of the Visor (leaving them in for more then 5-10 minutes that is) ?
If they still have the same voltage then the following is not neccessary.

Because it could be possible that there is an electrical short. Try to measure the current going in if you use a setup where you keep the batteries outside and use wires with clips. Then have a ampere-meter in series (set to measure mA's).
Unless you have a good external power supply with adjustable current limits, I would recommend usig it, since there's arisk to burn something up !

My theory is that there is a dead capacitor somewhere close to the input voltage, which shorts out the battery voltage. Those age in years and eventually cause leakage or shorts.
