Question VisorPhone for data

I live in Alabama and there is currently no CDPD service (anywhere in GA, AL or MS for that matter). That leaves OmniSky and GoAmerica out for wireless access. My main goal is corporate email and limited Web use - mostly clipping applications, limited stock data, etc.

Does anyone have any experience using the VisorPhone for this? I'm ok for ISP's (BellSouth, AT&T Global). I was a little surprised by a salesperson at HandSpring that told me "...we don't recommend the VisorPhone for primarily data applications, it's too slow." I was all set to give it a shot, until that call.

Any thoughts? Any ideas I'm missing?

Thanks.

Barry

Cool

OK., i live in Germany and got my VP 4 weeks ago as a GSM-version. With this and my GSM-service the VP works fine for any dialin-accounts i have. Sure, with the 9.6kbit/s itLs maybe not real fun to browse the web, but that never was my intention with the VDX (screen to small ;-) ). But in the greatest emergency, you can do this as well. And the really good is: Everywhere access to all my POPMail-accounts. If you can live with that like my: no better choice, if you just have GSM-coverage. I can just presume the same for any PCS-services ... ;-)

I have used both the Minstrel S and the Visorphone extensively. Theoretically 19.2 kbps should beat the pants off 9600 bps, but for e-mail, you're not going to see a difference that is going to make you say "Gee I wish I had the Minstrel S." I can tell that the Minstrel S is faster, but it's not enough faster that it makes me want to swap out the modules just to check my e-mail or the baseball scores. Either one works fine, as long as you have the coverage.
