Hello all.

I need help reinstalling software after a hard reset.

After changing batteries in my Platinum, my screen starting flickering and nothing I did could get it to stop. Finally had to do a hard reset and of course lost everything on the visor. I went to hotsync it but i got an error that there was not enough memory on my visor. I checked to see what it was trying to install it was all the junk i deleted from it a couple of months ago and all my txt files that i had on my 8mb module. I don't know where it was pulling these files from. I went to the add-on directory on my hardrive and deleted the junk files in the backup folder and it still tries to install those same files.

Question 1) Where are these files that hotsync goes to to sync your Visor?
Question 2) Does a hard reset affect a module if the module is attached during hard reset?
Question 3) Can anyone explain why the "flickering" happened after I exchanged batteries?

Thanks in advance for any and all help!

- Sharon

Good Question

Have you gotten an answer to this problem? I would be interested in the same information. It is a very legitimate question that deserves an answer. Surely someone out there knows how this is done!

The backup files on my PC got installed here:
C:\Program Files\Palm\{username} in various folders.

My understanding of restoring after a hard reset (I use Backup Buddy so this hasn't been a problem for a long while) is that the various built-in apps are restored (each has a folder) and the "other" apps, docs, etc (IF they were backed up at all) are restored from the "\backup" folder at the above path.

You need to clean out the \backup folder of stuff you don't want reinstalled. Hotsynchs don't delete things out of this folder, they only put new stuff in (Backup Buddy does both). If you want to keep a copy, move it somewhere else on your PC.

I saw a flickering screen before, usually when something in software became unstable. Hard reset to cure.

No idea on the module question, I only have a b/u module.
