Cool

I ordered my Visor Prism on 10/16 at 2:45 Pacific Time. I ordered express shipping in the hopes of getting it by Thurdsay. Lets see how Handspring does...

Cool

My order was confirmed on 10/16 at 1:41pm PST. I selected express shipping, and the Handspring rep I talked to said they were shipping today already, so here's hoping I have at 3pm tomorrow.

I said POSSIBLY... Besides, you've been around long enough to remember how bad the situation got. Sorry...Last October has made me paranoid.

Thumbs up Happy so far

Yes I remember last October too. The busy signals, the multi hour hold times, the frustrated handspring employees and the long shipping delays. But this time was different. I called at 12:30 PM (typically the busiest time of day for these types of calls), and my call was picked up immediately by the automated attendant. I selected the option for sales and was transferred to a live person who took my order. Initially the sales rep sounded tired, but after she started to take my order her voice changed. With a lilt in her voice she took my order, answered my questions and even had time to giggle at my jokes and to finally thank me for my order. My confirmation e-mail arrived with 60 seconds after hanging up the phone (I am not kidding). She also told me that the Prism was available and that the 'normal' processing time of 4 to 5 days still applied. So I expect to see my Prism early next week.

Handspring has had some rough times in their relatively short existence. But, so far, I am happy with the way this order has progressed.

Besides, with the 30 day money back guarantee and 'free' shipping, how could I go wrong?

From my confirmation e-mail:

=======================================
SHIPPING DETAILS
=======================================

Orders from Handspring.com usually ship from our warehouse in 3-7 business days. Custom case orders require 7-10 business days.

This still baffles me. WHAT needs to be processed? Isn't that the entire point of having an automated web-based ordering system? I would assume the only thing they need to do is print out the mailing label and slap it on the box...

Homer,

A couple of things that might take 4 to 5 days of normal processing time:
1. Customer Service is contracted and is located in Canada, unless something has changed in the last year.
2. Handspring doesn't warehouse their product - it's handled by a contract warehouse organization and hence they will process the orders based upon Handspring transferring to their system and how busy "the" warehouse is with other products. The warehouse was located in Fremont which is just up the street from Handspring a few miles.
3. Credit card clearance was a big issue last year.
4. Demand! If it's excessive then it'll plug the system.

The good news is that most of this stuff should be solved by now. It was a year ago when Handspring started shipping their initial products, almost to the day. Those of us who ordered last year on Sept. 14th, of which I am guilty, painfully remember the issues.

I believe that the normal process time and shipping via express will result in items being received by Friday of this week for items ordered on Monday. That's not as fast as you can get it from Palm but Palm has so much stuff on backorder right now that I'm glad Handspring looks as if they built plenty of inventory for this release.

They learned a good lesson.

Exclamation Order processing info

I ordered mine yesterday - 2 minutes on hold! (I too still remember September 14th of last year.) The order taker was in Utah and said that still appeared to have stock - that they had just received a very large order of Prisms. I have received 2 confirming emails: the first contained only my order number and was to confirm that they had recieved my order and were processing it. The second email contained the details of what I ordered and how it was to be shipped.

I'm expecting another email when they have shipped. My order status on the web site still shows pending.

Talking Ordered Sunday evening...

Order still shows "pending". A call to handspring results in a "they are in stock" and "it usually takes 3-4 days to ship" reply.

A small glimmer is that my credit card now has $533.00 (which matched my order confirmation) less available credit, so at least they are authorizing the charge.

Should be soon..

Now if Omnisky/Minstrel would ship their wireless modem.. We'll be in serious business!

My dream machine (2000) Wireless, Color Palm platform device. We are SO close...

Hey, I didn't mean to upset anyone with the statement that Handspring requires 4-5 days of processing time. The Prism will be the 4th Visor that I have ordered from Handspring, additionally I have influenced about a dozen friends of mine to purchase Visors from Handspring. And with the exception of the initial order last September, all of the units have arrived in a timely manner (before the 'normal' processing time frame). However, Handspring, like most companies, does not want to upset its customers by setting unrealistic time frames. They would rather you be happy that your product arrived early or on time, than upset that your product is late.

I noticed that James got his Prism already, so at least we know that they really are shipping.

I agree with genearch, a Prism with a Minstrel modem and the OmniSky service, and I will be in business (and the envy of all my friends).
