Temporary Relief From Fatal Errors..:)

I'm not sure if this was covered before, but I found a way to exit the infinite looping on my Visor Edge (Yup, I've joined the club too)...

For those in a similar predicament, try this:-

Press and hold the power button, whilst doing a hard reset when stuck on the Palm screen.

This should bring up an option to erase all data on the Visor by pressing the Up arrow key. Do that and it should reset back to default, usable settings. You can then try hot-synching again...

I managed to get back to a workable state. I believe the lockups could be due to the memory manager being unstable with certain programs: in my case, it seems to hang more often with DateBook 4 and MultiMail Pro 3.1 installed!!?? Anyone else has similar experiences?? Also, it gets more unstable as more memory gets used up on the Visor Edge...

Oh well, maybe it's time to switch over to another PDA...

There are a couple of memory manager faults I've seen on my Edge. One was traceable to an incompatibility between Gridlock and GNU Keyring. The other is with Datebook+. When I access an appointment that has an alarm set within about 2 minutes of the alarm going off, then shut the power off without exiting the appointment, the alarm never goes off and the next time I power on I get the memory manager fault screen. Of course it's only a soft reset, so no data is lost.

I also have a strange problem with the screen going blank at times if I power off while in an app. I notice this most often in HandyShopper2, since I'm always turning the Edge off while in that app, but it's also happened in DiddleBug. Problem is, it's not the app that's the problem, since it doesn't always happen. It'll fail constantly for a day or so, then be fine for months. Very weird. I found if I simply hit the Home soft button the problem corrects itself, so it's not a big deal. Just annoying.

Been looking at Sony's t615, but I just can't justify the money right now. Perhaps if the Edge were to somehow slip under my truck's tires....

I'd lay down 10 bucks that it would survive that if you rolled over it on a flat surface at a moderate speed.

...I'm starting to think Toby's guess about static electricity is right. The problems are so diverse, yet so common, it makes sense that static electricity is screwing up different circuits for different folk.

I'd have to agree with Toby and Dietrichbohn, because every time my visor has done that, I was switching batteries. I think it has to do with an extra spark of electricity somehow.

Just so you know, this procedure is a hard reset and it is well documented. Just poking the device in the reset hole/ button is a soft reset and is similar to rebooting a pc. Another thing you might try is a warm reset. To do that, hold the up scroll button while doing a reset.
