Question

A couple of weeks ago, I purchased a Stowaway for my VDX. I also registered the latest version of the Stowaway Driver 1.5,stayoff Hack, X-Master, and Afterburner III ( to save on battery usage). I am having major problems. The keyboard will NOT work. If I hit the Afterburner icon, the VDX shuts down and I have to reboot. I've had to completely re-install all my applications at least three times. I am constantly getting fatal exceptions.
I have adjusted the preferences per a response to another question. I have turned off my Stayoff hack. I just don't know what to do. I purchased my VDX in Jan of 2000. HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLPPPPPPPPPPPP!!!!

Sounds like the little man inside your computer is sick. I recommend giving him two aspirin.

Seriosuly, is the Stowaway Keyboard driver turned on?
That might help get the board to work, though with all those other problems maybe not.
I've no experience with Afterburner or hacks.

The Keyboard driver is turned on.
Wow, I'm baffled by this one. I have turned many, many people on to using the Handspring and now I can't solve my own problems. I just need to get my VDX working. Thanks for the input. I appreciate it.

I remember seeing the warning that the beam receive must be enabled for the keyboard to work (You mentioned saving batteries so I thought maybe you had turned that off). Make sure that is on.

That is for the Go-Type I believe, not the StowAway. I'm using the 1.5 driver for the StowAway with no problems so far. Perhaps Afterburner is causing the problem?

OK, here I go. I turned the beam receive on per the suggestion and them off per the suggestion. Guess what I now have? A VDX that works just fine with the keyboard. NO, a fatal exception. Did I do something wrong or is it time for a NEW VISOR PRISM? I would love to go with the latter but my purse says "Be Wise, fix what you have." I still need help.

Beam Receive only need be on for the GoType. Stowaway works thru the serial port (HotSync port).

One of the worst things with any computer is trying to track why a problem happens.
Do you get a fatal exception ONLY when trying to use the keyboard? if so, try turning other things off, such as HackMaster (or whatever you're using) or Afterburner. warning, It'll be tedious, time consuming, and will likely cause a lot of frustration.

I agree with sdoersam that Afterburner sounds like the most likely culprit.

From thread four:

Thanks, GSR13. I learned some stuff.

Wink

Well, my keyboard is back up and running. I deleted Afterburner. Well, I guess I just wasted my money. I definately don't like that but, I do like having my keyboard operational.

Thanks to everyone that helped me. "That's what friends are for."
Have a super weekend and keep vising.

yeah, me too...I hope that Afterburner's developer will address this issue in the near future, but until then, I'm leaving it alone.

FWIW, I tried AB once, and couldn't believe how complex & detailed it was / & allowed the user to get. I thought it looked like a recipe for trouble for most users, even very experienced ones.
I've heard a number of the other performance enhancers are much better / safer / user-friendly, etc.
I don't run any, now, though -- and am still usually about 99.9% w/the speed of things on my VDX.
