Unhappy

Hi there,

I experienced my first Hard Reset today... I was devastated... I tried to restore my files (using just the HotSync Manager), and during the restore, I got an error along the lines of: NO MORE OWNER IDs.

Anybody have an idea what this means?

Also, once I restored everything (somehow WordSmith was causing a problem, deleted, and then re-installed), I performed a soft-reset (don't ask me why). Once it reset, the VDX froze again!!

I restored everything once again... but I notice now that when my VDX resets (for whatever reason), the PalmOS startup logo flickers once, and the contrast suddenly darkens.

Any reason why this would be happening? Any suggestions on how to resolve this issue? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Frank

I've been getting that same error myself. It seems to be caused by WordSmith. The developers are fully aware of it and are working on a solution (I've been in email contact with them for the past week about it).

As for your flickering and reset problem, it could be just about anything. The flickering is probably the OS placing the display into some sort of default mode to ensure it is visible to the user.

If you installed any OS patches, they would request a Soft reset after a Hard reset and restore (the restore copies them back to the Visor; the Soft reset re-enables them once they're there).

Any number of reasons could be causing the freeze ups... hacks, bad apps, corrupt databases, etc.

Lets hope it's something that can be resolved... I found the only way around it was to un-install WS from Windows, HotSync my VDX, and re-install WS...

What do you mean by OS patches? The only patch I am aware of is the Memory issue... I installed the patch when I first got my VDX, and when I restored everything tonight, it still says OS3.1H3M... That's the only patch I know of.

In terms of bad apps... how would I know which ones? Also, if HACKS were active before I performed a Hard Reset, that wouldn't make a difference, right?

Ever since I received my Visor 6 months ago, the PalmOS startup logo flickers once, and the contrast suddenly darkens too. I thought this was normal!? It's no big deal to me, it only takes 2 seconds to adjust afterwards. I'm quite use to it now and I even wait for it!!!???

Hehe... It's just that once you're used to something performing one way, and it suddenly changes, it's a sign that something may be wrong... I hate having to adjust to something that shouldn't be...

I emailed HandSpring, and I'm waiting for a response... I hope it's something that can be rectified...
