Treo on the way to old Sprint customer

I�m a current Sprint customer with a regular phone, and my contract has ran out a while ago. I�ve ordered a Treo 600 (oh baby) from handspring.com that will arrive Tuesday.

Should I negotiate a new service contract (for the same account) before I activate the Treo so I�ll have leverage, or do I need to renew my contract when I activate the phone to get the rebate?
