HandSpring is STUPID

Ok can someone please tell me what was the smartness of discontining the Visor Prism and replacing it over the Treo 90?

The Treo in no means can replace something that was like the Visor Prism. As far as I see it people who buy the Treo 90 are getting ripped off. The Treo 90 isent even expandable and has only 12 bit color and not a smaller screen. Ok the Treo has 16 mb of memory but the Visor Prism can have that too!

The Treo cant be a cell phone, Mp3 player, camera, modem and other expandables, while the Visor Prism can! The only great advantage of the Treo 90 over the Prism is its weight and size.

I need explanations. This is the craziest thing I thought Handspring would do and yet they did. I really wont be suprised when I see VisorCentral say "Long Live Handspring" on their front page.

Happy Treo 600 user, so far. Thanx Cingular for having an unlocked phone.

My Treo 600 is my phone, my PDA, my watch, and my MP3 player. Oh yeah, I take a picture once in a while with it. Convergence is such a great thing.

Letter posted to Handspring (backward) development

Being a Handspring customer since the inception of the Visor, I just wanted to tell you how disappointed I am in the company's lack of vision. The discontinuation of the Prism is certainly understandable. Its replacement with the Treo series is ludicrous. I just don't understand how the regression to 12bit color, smaller screen, lack of grafitti, flimsy product feel, staying with 160x160 res, staying with the 33mHz dragonball, and still virtually non-viewable outdoor can be considered an evolution. To compound this lack of vision, releasing the 270 as a GSM product only is ridiculous. Yes, I know standards are GOING to change. This hasn't happened yet - as evidenced by the great majority of cell phones STILL being CDMA. I can't help but ask: what the hell are you guys/girls smoking? Is this a bid for some kind of tax write off as the company folds? I can understand the lack of springboard sales prediacting the stoppage of further support and development, but the rest is just totally baffling.

Hate to say bye to Handspring. I still use my Prism, yet I succumbed to the beauty and design of the Clie last week and the blazing performance and features. This is my seventh PDA all Palm except the work related iPaq. I was expecting Handspring to deliver with something like the Clie with Springboards, but Sony got there first. I made an investment in Springboards expecting to migrate them as newer machines came out which is now an unrealized expectation that the Edge cast the first rays of light on. Since it was obvious I was going to start over I went for the Clie.
Was the GPS great - you bet, the MemPlug just what I needed - absolutley, the OmniSky and StepKeeper - truly cool and used. But you know what, the GPS is sitting next to my handheld unit which I can read outside, the Omnisky died with Earthlink and that horrible interface, no PQA's and AvantGo's strong arm, and the StepKeeper, while guess I'm just lazy although I miss that dog nagging me. The MemPlug rode the unit and still does today. So I guess for me the cool factor was up and the practicality was not as I'd hoped for - a thought shared with Handpsring perhaps.
While the Springboard migration and future was an assumption on my part, and as much as I appreciate the Handpsring story - see ya. The Treo aint it guys.

I don't know......From the sounds of their site, they may continue both lines (Visor and Treo). I am hoping that they come out with new versions of the Visor that still include a SpringBoard slot. I would hate to think that they would leave the their partners and developers in the dirt by discontinuing the Springboard slot, but crazier things have been known to happen.

I'm not too surprised. I expected the machine to last me about a year to 18 months when I bought it. I had just hoped that there would be an upgrade path within the Handspring line. I'd warn future buyers to beware of Handspring's abandonment of the Visor line.

For me, both Palm and Handspring have made my decision easier. I already have a Pocket PC on order. It was fun while it lasted.

Handspring's relatively sudden and total abandonment of Prisms in specific and Springboards in general have soured me to this company. They still haven't gotten it figured out with the Treo line (hello? expandability?) and are just as likely to perform another product line-abandoning maneuver in a year or two as they chase their Holy Grail around the market place.

I want to thank them for making me look outside the Palm world for the first time in 3 years (when I first discovered how horrible the WindowsCE world was!). As timing would have it, PocketPC 2002 had just been released with a ration of ARM-equipped models to choose from. Long story short, my wireless-network, Bluetooth-syncing, Bluetooth wireless internet (via cell phone), MP3-playing AudioVox Maestro couldn't make me happier.

I really enjoyed the Palm world while I was in it (from about 1995-2002), but I think the PocketPC has not only arrived, but has significantly more growth potential than Palm does at the present.

Bought a Clie

I dumped my Prism and bought a Clie a few weeks ago. I couldn't be happier. Handspring must have their head up their a**, and I have no sympathy if the company folds. It took a great product and basically threw it away.
