startac to prism via cableand fastcpu

okay here's my query.... how come when i attempt to connect my prism and startac (via syncable sol'n cable) i have to do a soft reset to disable fastcpu and return theprism to it's "unenhanced" state...whereas when i surf via my thinmodem i can surf with fast cpu fully "engaged" just curious

My guess would be that because the serial interface on the hotsync connector has no handshaking, any overclocking or wait-state removal might be prone to problems.
