Question

I just received the modem from Handspring. The instructions explain how to hotsync via modem--but when it comes to surfing the web, says only that it is possible with "3rd party software." What do I need? How do I proceed? I assume a need a communications program of some kind to dial into my ISP, and browsing software (Proxiweb?). What communications software is available for the Visor? Help! David

hey Huwiler,

I'm using ProxiMail and ProxiWeb. ABSOLUTELY no problems. ProxiMail is good enough right now as it's free and does the job. it also ties in with the Mail program already on your Visor so that program doesn't become redundant. problem, you can't attach files (like MultiMail) and there's only one inbox for all your accounts. I think one day i may switch to MultiMail but we'll see.

ProxiWeb ROCKS! I've heard others using ISilo complain about sites not working properly or coming up all jarbled. ProxiWeb works beautifully! i'm SO impressed with it...read my post!

Only problem with ProxiWeb. I have access to 2 ISP's. Personal (for which i pay for) and work (free). I was away this weekend and to save some long distance charges (my personal ISP didn't have an access number in the back woods where i was...) I decided to call my work's 1-800 dial in number. I was able to check my email, sync my AvantGo channels, but couldn't surf! why? Firewall. AvantGo has the ability to enter a userID and password for my work's firewall, but ProxiWeb doesn't. I've emailed ProxiNet and i'm waiting for a reply. In the meantime, all this means is i can't surf the web when i'm in the middle of nowhere! otherwise i dial the local number for my personal ISP and 'I'm surfin'!

All i can say, is give them a try, they're free and they work well (never crash my visor).
