My Visor went dead yesterday...I tried to turn it on and there were a lot of weird patterns on the screen, and now it won't do anything. I've tried new batteries, a hard reset...everything! Anyone else had this problem? Just this past week I started using Nickel Cadmium batteries and an eyemodule with it, but I can't imagine either of those caused the problem.

Alas, 'tis true.

Your wildest total crash will come when using eyemodule when batteries are dangerously low. Resulting sounds and patterns will stop one's heart, as well as that of the Handspring Visor Deluxe.

BackupBuddy will restore the programs. If you don't have that, you have to build your programs back up by downloading everything you had before. Backup the PDA before using the eyemodule, and don't venture out into the field without extra batteries.

This was beyond a total crash. It had fresh batteries in it, and now it is completely dead. I'm sitting here with a dead Visor waiting for my replacement from Handspring. Even worse, I just got my Stowaway, and I can't use it!

I had the same thing happen with my Palm Pro, that is why I bought a Visor.

Funny you should mention it, but I had just bought some Rayovac Rechargeable Alkaline batteries...and it happened after the first use. I figured it was just a coincidence.....now I kinda wonder. But I have had my Visor for about 2 weeks, and using the rechargeables without problems.....

You have to be really careful about low batteries + springboards. NiCads also drop more suddenly than alkalines, and low batteries cause very strange behavior no matter what.
Sometimes dead visors (with the funky screens and everything) can be fixed by multiple hard resets in a row, leaving the batteries out for 8 hours or so...

Does anyone know if it is possible to permanently damage the visor by reversing the polarity of the batteries (by putting them in wrong or letting them drain to neg. voltage)?

My visor does in fact live...I put fresh batteries in it after 24 hours and it came on and seems to be working fine. I called Handspring and they said it was too late to cancel the replacement being sent to me. The tech recommended I go ahead and keep the new one and send the old one back in case their is something wrong with it. Might be time to get a backup Springboard...
