has anybody of you experiences with the thinmodem+?

the worldaccess from xircom is a so big ...

i want to use it in europe and us with my prism. the problem is not the cable, i can change it and it works.

You had better check with the folks a cardaccess directly. I know the original Thinmodem did not work in Japan. When I asked them about that a year ago, they said they planned to add international capabilities later. Now with the release of ThinModem+ I asked them again, and they said, essentially, "Don't Hold your Breath."

So send them an email and ask them point blank if it will work in the country(s) you plan to use it in.

thanks,

but thats a problem i know. in most european countries you have to ignore the dial tone. what i want to know is the most important difference between the modems. a 56k by xircom without 8 mb of mem, and a 56 k with mem ... for exact the same price!

is there a difference in the software? is the software used by xircom better? have had anyone still trouble with the thinmodem?

I have a ThinModem Plus and have been very happy with it. I have not tried to use it outside the USA, however. The software included with it is One Touch email, Browse-it 2.0, USB File Mover, and CardAccesses' program that allows real time monitoring of the connection rate. ThinModem is the only modem with the last program.

As for the other programs, One Touch seemed okay. The abilities and interface were fine but I had problems with my work email account that I could never get straightened out. It worked fine with my wife's email account, however. Because of the problems, I switched to Multimail Pro. Browse-it is a great browser. I have been very impressed with it. Positive things have been said about it in the Software discussion area. CardAccess also has another program that you can download from their site called USB File Mover. It allows you to move files directly from you desktop to the module and back without using the install on the desktop. It only works with the ThinModem and ThinModem Plus but it is really handy.

My reason for selecting the ThinModem Plus was the additional memory. I keep the module in my Plat all of the time. I have not noticed a need to change batteries more often with this set up. When you use the modem, your battery level does drop greatly but once you disconnect, it comes back up quickly. Since I mainly use the modem to check email while out of town, I have not had the need to change batteries frequently when using the modem.

the 8 mb of additional ram is my favourite reason to buy the thinmodem+too.

i�m looking for an alternative going online on the road. at the moment i�m online in europe with my nokia 6210 and a highspeed data connection (about 38,4k wireless) to synchronize avantgo. but it�s too expensive (10 cent a minute).

i don�t know much about browseit. my favourite browser is blazer and i use it only for checking my email account (the only email account without a pop3 server in the world, visto.com).



as a typical visor user, you are carrying a lot of modules. so i want to have small helpful solutions. i think the thinmodem is right choice.
