Gadgetguru says there's no adhesive. aserenyi says there's an adhesive that leaves goo behind. y'all are saying there's adhesive leaving residue. I says there's no residue but don't contest the adhesive issue. I'm sure if we wait long enough someone will wander in and claim ownership of the residue and/or goo, and expect all of us to pay a royalty fee on the patent.
but every WriteRight I have used goes on using an adhesive.
ayup.
In fact, I have noticed a haze that develops on the screen when I used to leave the WriteRight off in between changes.
does that go away if you clean the screen? If no, that may not have anything to do with any adhesive.
It even states on the WriteRight packaging:
"Utilizing a low-tack adhesive, WriteRight Screen Protectors are designed to be removed without leaving a residue or damaging your scree"
of course, "designed" and "in reality" don't always mesh, as you say. And one person's reality may vary from another's. (There are days when I'd like to keep other people's realities out of mine, but that's another problem for another post.)
It may be low-tack, but it certainly leaves _some_ residue.
As I noted in my earlier post, I've never had any residue or "goo" left behind. Your milage may vary. I generally change them when the edges get gunked up with dust and other particles that are getting trapped in the adhesive, or when the grafitti area gets hazy from use.
I also use a NicePak screen wipe before putting on the fresh WriteRight, but that's more for the little bits of gunk (tm) than any expectation of adhesive.

It might not be visible to the naked eye, but any adhesive leaves residue behind when you take it off. Otherwise, it wouldn't stick.
Actually, whenever sticking two things together temporarily, the adhesive doesn't need to be transferred to the other object. This is why Post-its work. (well, usually work, anyway. I can't get them to stay on the grease spill.)
Unless there's something sticky still on the screen, I'd say there isn't any adhesive being left behind, but your mileage may vary.
