Cool

Any great stories of "Visor envy" out there? I just got my first chance to experience it!

As I was leaving a three-day conference at which I used my IVX to take notes and record impressions, a colleague said, "What was that little toy I saw you playing with over there? Was it a 'Palm Pilot' I've got one of those." I said that it was a Visor and he was a little taken aback. He immediately went into how it was identical to this Palm 3(something, he didn't know) expect for "that game slot." I quietly dropped out that it also had 8 megs - at which point his jaw dropped. "Wow," he said, "mine only has 2." Then came the clincher question, "So how much did you pay for this?" When I said that it was $250 I thought he was going to fall on the floor. It seems that he got his Palm last summer, which means he would have paid $300+, right?! As he played around with it a little more he even said something like, "Wow, I wish I'd gotten one of these."

OK, now I know it's not nice to gloat, but...

Hey it's ok to gloat some of the time People get so jealous when they see my new toy and realize that they should've waited to buy a ppc. A fellow at work nearly had a heart attack when I told him how much it cost. Too bad I have a crapload of scratches on the screen from that blasted stylus.

Yah, let's just see if your still gloating when your "cool" Visor starts cracking and crumbling into pieces. At least my Palm Vx isn't made of cheap plastic. And don't get me started on that horrible cover that pops off.

I like Handspring's Springboard technology. But I'm not buying another one of their products until they come out with a more high-end device. Preferably one that comes in a nice anodized aluminum case. But I have to say from experience, in terms of quality, the Visor is a piece of crap!

The palmVx and the Visor are two differnt products. Obviously, you end up paying for the high impact resistance of the aluminum in the PalmVx, and the good looks (drool). But all that is what makes the Visor sort of the "budget" cousin of the Palm. What else makes it budget? The non-upgradeable OS, the backlight (arguable), the casing...

As for envy, I've only showed it to people in Portland, and they just shrug. Stupid hippies... In my 1 month of owning this product, the younger kids (20 somethings) arent really taken aback, since i think we're used to the quick pace of technology. Older folks, who get their Palm Pros and then drop out of the scene for a few years arent as up to date re: PDA's. Maybe that leads to the envy.

That's odd. I've had my Visor since mid-December, and it hasn't crumbled a bit. Not even the dreaded crack-in-the-top-lip problem I've read about. Are you banging your Visor around?
I didn't mind the plastic cover, it provided nice protection for the screen. Though now I'm using a Rhodiana case, so I don't need the cover.

I am looking forwards to the first Palm user I meet... heh heh!

Several Casses of envy with IIIx users. In reply to the coments about the Vx, what do you think holds together those thin little plates of crushed beer cans. I have seen 2 with dents in the case from short falls. Sorry had to vent.

Ugh...

Just enjoy what you have. The flame wars are pointless.

The plastic material at the center of the Palm Vx "sandwich" is not the same crappy resin plastic used on the Visor. I finally sold my Blue Vdx to a friend (at a cheap price) because it developed several cracks on the back of the unit. I have no idea how the hell they got there, as I treated my Visor like a baby!

Many users are reporting the same experience. Clearly there is a tolerance weakness in the resin casings. Wake up! something is rotten in the state of California...and it's name is Visor!

Just curious...i've noticed in many threads that you're against the Visor (along with a few others), why do you continue to monitor this website if you (and others) are so against the visor and don't even own one anymore or at all?

Why can't this site be a place for people to answer questions, learn new things and enjoy life...with their visor?

let's quit the 'palm wars'...it's not worth it.
