Thumbs down

I noticed the LCD portion of my screen is about 2 mm over to the right on my new visor deluxe. If you turn up the contrast all the way to make the LCD dark, you can easily see. Is this "normal" or is everybody elses screen centered? It's not crooked, but I guess I'm kind of anal/paranoid about it.

Can some of you check and tell me if yours is just right? I bought it at Staples and can exchange it if it really continues to bother me.

Thanks,
Steve

Question

Have you gone through screen calibration (Preferences -> Digitizer)?

Question

Yes, I have and I see that it does change the calibration of the touch screen, but the physical LCD area is the same. Turn up the contrast all the way to maxixum, which will make the screen mostly black. At that point, I can see there is about 2 mm more "margin" on the left side than the right. Does yours look like that or is it perfectly centered?

I even went so far as to open the case and see if I can move the screen myself, but it was tacked in place.

Thanks for the suggestion!
Steve

Steve:
Don't worry, it is normal (the slightly off-centered screen). I currently have 2 Visors (the replacement one and my old unit) and both have slightly off-centered screens (about 2mm more at the left side of the screen)...

So your Visor is not broken or sloppily manufactured. This is normal.

Enjoy your new Visor!

yah, we all have that.
But I dont think its an "off-center" issue - if anyone has noticed the CASE is not evenly spaced on each side. I believe this is to accomodate the IR port on the left side of the case. So the screen is also nudged over to accomodate the IR port.
This should be kept in mind when considering usuing any palm glove-type case, because the leather can overlap the screen on the right side (shorter).

Thumbs up

I've heard a lot of theories about why the screens are always further to the right on Palm and Visor devices. I have a Palm III, IIIx and a IIIc and the all have a thicker part of the case on the left side of the screen as opposed to the right.

Some people say this is to support right-handed people who would be holding the Visor or Palm in their left hand. It doesn't make any sense to me, unless of course someone has really big hands or something, but oh well. It's normal none the less.

I heard that the screen is offset to the right because the connectors for the screen are on the left side, thus the case must be larger on that side.
