Unhappy

I just installed new HS software update (Palm Desktop 2.6), and now my visor won't sync at all. Kept getting lost connection error (on the Visor side). Does anyone have a similar problem?? Went back to original HS software (version 2.1) and everything works fine. I have G3 with MacOS 9.04. Any info is appreciated.

I'm having the exact same problem, on an iMac running MacOS 9.0. Kind of pisses me off, when I saw that there was an update I hoped it would fix the slow Mac hotsyncing, but it looks like it broke it entirely.

Is there anyone out there who DOES have Mac hotsyncing working with the new update?

I got it to work on my G4s qith OS 9.04. Of course, 9.04 screwed up several of my other apps.

The problems with the Palm Desktop and OS 9 seem quite varied and, at times, random.

Looks like a reformat this weekend!

I used drive setup yesterday and just started from scratch. I'm using palm desktop 2.? whatever came with the HS and then I upgraded to the new updated HS software but NOT to 9.0.4 that upgrade gave me more problems then I can even mention. So far so good! Thank god I have a 8x cd writer to back up a lot of my essential data... such as mp3's

Mike..

Now I'm going to put 9.0.4 on my powerbook (I have to because there's this stupid HD killer if you don't... ) and hopefully I can get IR hotsynching to work. Go2mac has an article on ir hotsynching if you're interested

Guys, before you start reformatting your hard drives and going back to OS 8, check out this link: http://www.palm.com/support/macintosh/hsupdate.html. I am using 9.0.4 and it fixed everything. This is directly off the site:

"Apple Computer, Inc. has released the Mac OS System Update v9.0.2 and v9.0.4 for use with Mac OS 9 operating system. Among other changes, the USB system software has been updated. This has affected the operation of the Palm HotSync Manager software.

As a result, HotSync operations may time out and return an error message when synchronizing with conduits for certain applications, including Meeting Maker and Outlook Express. Other conduits with "long" synchronization times such as AvantGo may also be affected."

If you've downloaded the Handspring update and this, then I don't know what to tell you. But try it first, everything is working fine for me. Let me know if this works.

Peace

well,

after no little amount of ado, i uninstalled desktop 2.5 and reinstalled 2.1. yeeesh!

outlaw: running os 8.x means an upgrade to 9.x is expensive, making it not an option at this point. (i'm saving my dough for osx). so i'll deal with the old software... i was hoping palm desktop would hold up on the new stuff -- nope! i was hoping the reset in cradle fix was one time only-- nope! i was hoping, somehow, that the updated software would be oh, i dont know, updated aaaarrrrgh.

i long for the day when mac users get equal f@#!ing support!!!

ah well... our day will come.

Talking

I have 9.0.4 working with Palm Desktop 2.6 downloaded from HS.

9.0.4 created problems for both Palms and Visors - and Handspring posted their fix long before Palm did, FWIW.

If yours says 2.5, then it might be the one that was broken by 9.0.4.

Question

I am confused !
I was using mac OS 8.6 and Palm Desktop 2.1 (from Handspring) and everything was working fine.
Then, I updated to 9.0.4 and had to update to Palm Desktop 2.6 and it worked fine for awhile.
Right now, the hotsync times out except if I remove the "backup" folder first from the "User" folder.
Checked with Handspring but nothing works.
Any idea ? Should I try to install the Palm version of the desktop app. (2.6.1) ?
Thanks for your help.

Thanks Outlaw but even with 2.6.1 (from Palm), the hotsync times out.
I just got an answer from Handspring Technical support and it is working now !
So try that if you still have problems sync.

""The fix steps below are work-arounds:
1. Bring up the HotSync Manager setup screen. Click the "Disable"
radio button. Close HotSync Manager. Unplug the USB cradle. Start up
HotSync Manager again. Click the "Enable" radio button. (If an error
message occurs, set it back to "Disable"). Plug in the USB cradle again.
With HotSync Manager's USB connection enabled, try another HotSync
operation.

2. If step 1 does not help, disable the backup conduit. Do this by
clicking Instant Palm Desktop icon | Hotsync (Handspring) | Conduit
Settings..., double click the Backup conduit, select the "Do nothing"
radio button, also click the "Make Default" button and then the OK
button. Try another HotSync operation.

3. If step 1 and 2 don't work, remove the backup folder from the user
folder. Try a HotSync operation. ""

Good luck everybody !

Lightbulb

I had the same problem and got the same response Ludo just quoted from HandSpring.

I finally figured out that the desktop software was trying to use an old version of the Palm conduits that were in the garbage since I had installed newer versions (but was afraid to lose the old version). So it couldn't find them every time and my calendars and stuff were not synchronized.

Once I emptied the trash, I no longer had the problem with losing (or not making) the connection, but now I have this weird thing where it creates an additional folder in the Users folder. I can cope with it for now.

HotSyching on a USB Mac real solution stalled?

I see we have a definitive workaround that not all of Handspring's tech support knows about. Before joining this list I email HS' Customer support and got the work around, but another Mac user emailed HS and didnot get the workout.

This workaround is really a royal pain. to do everyday!

When I got my reply from HS they said they were researching the problem. But I see from this list the problem has been well know for several months now.

Anybody know if any real attempt is being made to solve this? I'd am reluctant to recommend a Visor to my non techie Mac friends, at this point.

Frank

Frank 108,
With the help of HS Support, I am now able to hotsync without problem ...I mean almost.
It takes at least a minute for the desktop app. to identify the configuration but then everything works perfectly.
Does somebody know why this delay occurs ?
I am still waiting for an answer from HS....
