Question

I know this is a dumb a** question to ask.

I was just wondering if someone going thru an airport terminal with a Visor.

Will anything happen to the Visor passing thru the metal detector and the X Ray machine?

Thanks

Thumbs up

Mine's been through 2, no problems. Never even occurred to me that x-rays could cause it problems. Phew!

Exclamation Dead Rays

According to an article I read somewhere - It's a good idea to handcheck your Visor/Palm units. I always carry on with mind and have it handchecked so that it doesn't go through the X-Ray machine nor thru the magnetic sensor.

If your Visor doesn't glow in the dark, I wouldn't worry too much.

I have sent my Visor through the X-Ray machine with carry on luggage several times and have not noticed any problems.

I believe there was a thread on this subject almost a year ago and the final decision was that xray machines won't harm your Visor. You might be able to search for the thread, but I'm not sure how far back the VC archives go.

I have seen this discussion in other forums and in Pc mags. From what I read, it is not the x-rays you should worry about, it is the electric motors for the conveyor belt that was more of an issue (back when everyone was worried about their laptops. Now you see everyone putting them through without worrying).

But with that said, I usually put my Visor in the plastic tray as I go through the metal detector.

There is absolutely no need to worry about x-rays and magnets won't kill it either. In fact just to test it I held mine up to a bulk eraser for disks at school and nothing happened and I've had X-ray's taking at the hospital without any effect on my Visor. I can see in the dark now though. :-)

This is what happens to your Visor if you go through X-ray...

Taki,

Cool Picture and now that your Visor is "radiated" and glowing does your hand show any ill effects or are your using a lead shielded case?

HostileJava,

How many rays did it take before you could see in the dark? I'm wondering though - will you still be able to have children?

I brought up my opinion of the x-ray exposure issue because of a trip to Europe and although the camera body was fine my film came back with more green tint in it then desirable. Also, I tripped every single metal detector and the only thing of a metallic nature I was wearing were my glasses and my watch. I'm certain that our domestic security is using lower radiation exposing devices then the Europeans...I'm just leary (Timothy) about those pesky overseas units.

I knew I'd seen this warning before:

You should try the one on Singapore airport they have probably the strongest one I've ever seen....

b.t.w. the metal detector in SFO also picks up explosives/ammo... I found that out when I flew back home and had visited a shooting range that day...I did not ever fire a gun (I still never have, I just went in there out of curiosity since we don't have them in europe..) talk about sensitive equipment!!

p.s. I moved this thread to the 'off topic' forum where it belongs....

Everytime I go through the metal detector I don't take the risk and put my 'external memory' in the plastic tray.... better save then sorry..
