Question Prism USB problem

My sister got a Prism for xmas. It hotsynchs fine with her home computer, but refuses to do so with her laptop.
It gives a cheery message of "this device is not present, not working properly or does not have all its drivers installed"

Re-installation was fruitless. She had just installed a Camedia (Olympus digital camera software) USB program right before her first hotsynch, perhaps this was the problem?

A trouble-shooting place suggested that it was a USB driver conflict. She was advised to open her computer in safe mode and use the device manager to remove the drivers. The trouble was, there were four USB entries, and we are unsure which ones to delete (Intel (R) 82801BA/BAM USB Universal Host Controller 2442 and 2444, and it had USB Root Hub twice)

Any advice?

If you delete the "USB Root Hub" entries and reboot, Windows should redetect them. It should also redetect the Visor and Camera on their first uses as well. Note that I use the word should...

I've had great success with the troubleshooting steps on Handspring's web site. For example, my brother-in-law had a sync problem that was only solved by disconnecting his external zip drive.

Anyway, you may have already checked this list, but just in case you hadn't seen it....

My Neo was a bugger to install - this may help:

If a window pops up looking for the drivers, do not let the computer try to search for them, rather tell it that they are located at C:\Program Files\Handspring\Drivers.

If it doesn't ask for drivers, you may have to tell it to get new drivers:

1. Bring up the Device Manager (right click My Computer, then click Properties, click the Hardware tab) and try a hotsync. The Visor should pop up in the list (if it has errors).

2. Right click it and click Properties, then click the Driver tab. Click the "Update Driver" button and tell it where the driver is.

Hope this helps.

Thank you for all the help! I've passed all this on to my sister. I'll keep you posted.

That fixed it! Once she told it to look in the C:\Program Files\Handspring\Drivers directory, it worked like a charm.

Thanks for all the help, everybody!
