Unhappy

Hi,

I've been using Palm OS Devices since the Palm Pro days. Boy were those puppies stable!

Now I have a Handspring Prism and Omnisky. And i've had fatal crashes 5 times in the last 2 weeks. When I say fatal I mean the kind where you either HARD reset (data kablewie) and lose all your data, or you cant run any programs anymore (if you're lucky u can but it crashes and dies).

I run datebk4, liberty, omnisky, palmscape (new version is awsome btw , hackmaster, afterburner (version t built for omnisky), quickword, quicksheet, benchmark, zcatalog, and avantgo.

Now I'm extremely tempted to go out and exchange this for a Visor EDGE just to do something about this!

I have 2 requests please!

1) Please someone help me I like my prism but I cant keep losing data like this.

2) Should I get the visor edge instead? One of my main concerns is viewing in sunlight. Is the screen better (like the m500) to view in sunlight or is it just like the old Visors and Palm V's?

Thank you for replying

Don

The problem is not with your Prism (I've had one since October, and I haven't had a single fatal error) - it's more than likely the combination of the OmniSky service and the Minstrel S modem. There have been multiple posts on the VC boards about the Minstrel S causing fatal errors and resets in Platniums and Prisms (and somehow I don't think the Edge will fare any better). Check out the "Wireless Solutions" board.

Cool

If you've got GSM coverage in your area, you might want to consider a VisorPhone. I love mine, although the max data speed is 14.4 vs. 19.6 for Omnisky.

If the visorphone and (pacbell/cingular) service wasn't so expensive I'd get it (4.99 per month + 15 cents per minute!).

I've tried the Palm VIIx and I'll tell you this, its a pretty solid device. The limitations on pop mail and instant messenging hurts it but the coverage is awsome. It was very useful. The omnisky on the otherhand, its great to have normal tcp ip features but the software bugs and reception is lousy
