Question Can you still use mods

If you get the upgrade to 16mb or if you do it yourself and go for 32mb are you still able to use the extra memory mods and other mods that add memory and other things?

I emailed Tony Rudenko earlier this week and this is his reply:

Hello,
Thanks for your interest in my service.
I am working on the Platinum upgrade right now. I will let you know if/when it becomes available.
Regards,
Tony

sounds like it's not ready for the plainum yet... but i'll be first in line if/when he makes it avail

I received my upgraded Prism today from Tony. I will let you know how it works out. Make sure you have backed up all your data before sending. Rico

Thumbs up

Just got my upgraded Prism back from Tony (sent last Wednesday via express overnight mail, received today, Tuesday afternoon via express mail). Everything looks good, no problems or noticable changes (except for the 16Megs, that is!) I haven't tried filling it up completely yet, but I do have more than 8MB on it, so at least I know it's working. The best part is that you can use the Backup Module to restore your data, although I'm afraid to try backing my visor up when it has > 8MB on it (anyone brave enough to try?)

16 MB Prism Upgrade Available

Tony's receiving my Prism for 16MB super-charging as we speak.

This Medical Monkey needs the biggest stick in the jungle.
It even sees in the dark.
16 MB internal sucked up the back of the 16 MB Hagiwara to yield 32MB!

32 big ones with an infrared cyclops eye to shakeup all the bells, whistles, alarms, camera, sound recorder, and printer.

Now this equipment creep can walk into the jungle with 5MCC, Lexidrugs, Apothecarium, ID Book,Harrison's, Handbook of Drug Interactions, Physician's Assistant Handbook, DeGowin and DeGowin's, Merck, Washington Manual, Medicine for the Outdoors, ePocrates, ePhysician with ePrescription, Beam Box, E&M Coder, ABGPro, MedRules, eyemodule 2 with eyecontact, FirevViewer, GCS, iSilo, JFile 4, Keyboard, MentStat, Metricalc, OmniSky, PainStat, QuickBits, PalmPrint, PDR, PatientKeeper, 2 Readers, TealInfo, tealMaster, and Wordsmith!

Not to mention over 500 medical memos to supplement the clinical brain.

I'm really tempted by this, but all things considered, there seem to be so many returns of handhelds, defects, etc.....you're really commited to what you've got once you do this, and the cost of upgrading goes up geometrically, too. I think it's a cool concept, but CF or Flash seems a lot more portable.

The biggest reason I'm leary of the upgrade is that there is no backup module. The backup module was the primary reason I got a Prism rather than a PalmIIIc, which was at the >$100 cheaper. My desktop is at work, I don't have a computer at home, and I've had one too many crashes at a crucial momement away from my computer. Especially now that I use Omnisky, which crashes about every 10 seconds, the backup module is essential.

Lightbulb Backup Module with Prism upgrade

I was also concerned about the Backup Module. I e-mailed Tony and he says that the Backup Module will work. That was good enough for me, and I sent out my unit on Thursday. I can't wait to get it back! I believe that the Backup Module is capable of using compression technology which although slow, allows it to back-up a greater capacity. Anyone else know about this?

Music to my ears. I've had SO many hard resets. With BM I don't care.

The main reason for choosing Vdx originally was the Springboard concept. At the time there was but one productivity module--Backup. And that's exactly what I wanted.

Prism upgrade

I am eager to upgrade. I am tired of deleting and juggling to keep all my files. I use medical data and love games and the memory just goes!!! Brian P wrote in february about the palmpilotupgrade.com and wrote it was in California. The web site states in New Jersey. I am in calif and would prefer to upgrade by a homie (as long as they are reputable and reliable). Does anyone know of an upgrade site in sunny cal?

The closest one I know of is in Utah www.STNEcorp.com and is $10 less.

Now that I got VisorPhone I was finally pushed over the edge into doing this with palmpilotupgrades for my Prism. It got to the point where even though I own a Hagiwara 16 meg module, I was having trouble keeping enough essential stuff in just 8 megs, so I went for it. VisorPhone comes with several apps adding to 1.6 megs approx. I suppose some could be deleted (but I want 'em!).

(The only problem is that my "new" unit would neither charge nor sync when returned; it no longer fit in the cradle! It has been sent back and there are firm promises to repair, so I'm not worried. However, my advice would still be: if you don't HAVE to do it, don't.)

one day Handspring will come out with 16 or 32 megs built in. You just watch.

Question London, UK

Does anybody knows of someone providing this service in UK??

I have a Prism, and between my English dictionary, London map, Tiny Sheet, WordSmith, my emails and a few more apps, I'm almost out of space (just 600kb free) I have a few more apps. I would like to have installed, and if I had more space on the Visor I'll consider seriously buying the eyemodule2!

I'm not as brave as to send my Visor over the Atlantic.

Prism upgrade

I thought about upgrading to 16MB and finally decided to go with Matchbook.com for a compact flash adapter, $20, and 128MB compact flash from NewEgg.com for $47. That seemed like the easiest and definitely the cheapest route. Plus, I don't want to spend a week without my lovely Prism. STNEcorp.com will do your upgrade for approx$120. I am eagerly awaiting delivery of both--I love new toys!!!
