Question ? about repairs on Pro and Prism

Hello everyone,

I have a Pro that has a broken clip inside. The backlight quit working and my hubby opened it up and found the broken clip. He said it's the clip that connects the cable to the screen.

AND I have a Prism that quit working after being dropped. The screen lights up (turns on) but no display of any characters or colors other than a blank screen. Hubby opened the Prism up too and found a loose box-like thing (my words, not his!) near the IR beaming window.

I bought the Pro new from Handspring over a year ago and don't think I have any warranty time left. I bought the Prism used off of ebay so no warranty there at all.

Here's my question...is there a cheaper and trustworthy way to get these two Visors fixed than paying Handspring $99 and $125 respectively for the "repair and return" for out of warranty repairs?

Thanks so much,

wavygirl

It is cheaper to buy parts from www.GetHighTech.com or eBay to fix them. Your hubby sounds very handy.

Talking

JohnKes,

I checked out that web site and they have lots of repair info and lots of parts. My hubby didn't think he could do the detailed soldering (sp?) to fix the Prism but I'm thinking we could just buy a replacement motherboard for $40 and he could easily remove and replace that.

And for the broken clip on the Pro, I'll have him email those folks to see about getting a new clip.

Thanks for your reply.

I would have done the same thing w/ the Prism.

Hope everything works out.
