Question

I know this may sound trivial...but can someone answer me this. On the space pen stylus, is the stylus end replaceable? Also, what protects the stylus end from being damaged? It doesn't look protected on the end of the cap. Is it really reason for concern?

I'm in the market for a stylus, and as cheap as they are (mostly) I don't want to spend $200 buying them all to try them out.

Thanks!

Sam

The stylus tip is molded into the pen cap. You can replace the stylus end by replacing the pen cap. I know this from experience.
I once dropped my space pen and it landed directly on the tip, and punched it into the cap. I had ordered it from StylusCentral.com, so I contacted them about how I go about getting it fixed or ordering a replacement. They sent me a new cap at no charge.
Now, to address the durability issue. I think my problem with the stylus getting punched into the cap was a fluke, or at least already addressed. On the replacement cap I received, the stylus tip was attached more securely than on my original cap. It is hard to explain here, but the first cap look like it just had the stylus tip pushed through a hole in the cap. The replacement appeared to have the Stylus tip pushed through and then molded over the top of the cap, so has a "lip" over both sides of the cap. You really need to see it to fully understand. I have dropped the new one several times with no problem.
The tip is unprotected, but the only time I have had any damage happen, is when my 2 year old pulled the pen out of my shirt pocket, and dropped it on the asphalt. Put a small nick in the side of the stylus tip, but it still works great. (As you can tell, it gets dropped a bit. )I have found it to be very durable, well balanced and great to write with. (both Graffiti with the stylus, and handwriting with the pen) I bought a second one to have as a back-up in case I lose this one (or my daughter flings it into the woods. ) I highly recommend one.

BTW, I like the pic of the new Mini. I'm more of a Subaru Imprezza WRX man myself though...

Smile Not accident prone

I really love the bullet pen stylus by Fisher. I have never had a problem with the stylus tip though I must admit I haven't dropped it either. The clip comes off really easily and is long gone for me. It is so much more comfortable to hold than a skinny stylus and slips easily in to a pocket or in my change purse. Try it.

Another vote for the Space Pen... I originally bought it just to check it out and have around for those times when I needed a pen as well as a stylus. I ended up super-gluing the clip on so it wouldn't slide. I normally hook it to the side of my Rhodiana case (with the clip slid into the external stylus sleeve). My PDA Panache stylus now hardly ever sees the light of day.

I've been through a few stylii and seem to end up using the Handspring deluxe stylus/pen combo. In my pocket I still usually have the space pen w/stylus and I appreciate it at meetings when I need to write on notes. The space pen is fat and the tip is hard. I like the softness of the Handspring combo tip best.

another vote for the space pen...

i'd benn a spacepen user for tyears , so when i heard about the combo, i ordered one that day, and have been happily using it ever since. i too clip it to the side of my belt-clip case (in my case a vaja)

and i love the coolness factor of the silver -- when i'm carrying all my visorgear (modules, stowaway, and c.) in my rhino case, the silver of the space pen is great against my VPL.

i sold a palmv user friend on it the other day just by using the stylus in his line of sight. i think some people are really into the style of their machines (i'm one) and want accessories to match. i wish the stowaway came in silver as originally planned instead of cookie-crumbling black.

anyhoo. i think the space pen stylus is the smoothest stylus i've ever used, and i really like the girth because it feels much more substantial, like a, i don't know, pen... instead of a toothpick.

that's all.
