It seems that the real problem is that people are used to reflex viewfinders. I'm not as bothered by looking down at the Visor screen as some people are because I'm used to 4 x 5 view cameras. But it is a little awkward for the mainstream. See the suggestions I made in my previous post.

I finance Church buildings nationwide and plan to use the eyemodule for taking pictures of various stages of construction and completion. I could then e-mail the pictures to the brokers in our company who are selling the project, but haven't had the oppurtunity to be on site.

For those of you planning on taking pictures of whiteboards or notes, I wouldn't get your hopes up too high.

The eymodule takes extremely low resolution pics...320x240 at the most...which is simply to low of a resolution for anything more that 'fun'.

It's still a great product...and I'll probably get one just for the hell of it. But don't expect this to actually substitute for a digital camera.

I just went to IDEO's site to get more info on the eymodule...and I just discovered that they designed the handspring itself!

It says they worked on the Visor with Handspring, mainly in the Sprinboard area. The Visor itself, afterall, uses almost the same components as any of the other handhelds that run Palm OS.

you might also notice on IDEO's sight that in the upper right where we used to be able to input our email address for future notices..it now says the module will be released in April and available through Handspring.com!!!!

that gives them 2 weeks to release....

hopefully it's sooner than later!

The EyeModule is also VERY prominently shown on the Visor end-cap display at Staples. It is the largest image on the poster. Handspring obviously has high hopes for this module!

If you think about it (and judging by many of the posts here) a lot of people want it simply for "fun". This could really give credibility to the whole Springboard concept.

Personally, I think the SixPak and EyeModule will be the most popular modules with "average" Visor users. After that will be the GPS and MP3's.

The resolution in Homer's link is disappointing give that the picture was taken only 5in from the object. You can't even read what type of battery it is. I was hoping to use it whiteboard snaps but now I'm not so sure. I'm VERY disappointed.

it would be kinda neat if your review was up before the module went on sale tomorrow at 9am PST. I'm on the fence and leaning towards a buy but a strong wind (your review perhaps?) might make me lean the other way.

I just thought of something that might make the eyemodule easier to aim-and-shoot:

a springboard extender cable.

Then the module could be hanging off the end of a cable and you could position the Visor any way you wanted to see the image.

Of course, since the Springboard port is on the bus, this might get expensive, since the cable would have to be effectively a private bus between the module connector end and the Visor connector end. I think thos would be required because the bus couldn't be extended multiple inches.

I'm working on the review now. The conduit is nice as it automatically converts your pictures to jpg, but the eyeModule needs plenty of light.

I'm taking it with me to the Astros game this Friday, so we'll see how it fares there

I purchased one yesterday and received it today. I obviously have not had a chance to test it out thoroughly, but here's my preliminary take:

1. The picture quality is so-so. The resolution is low and the pictures tend to be a bit grainy and blurry. However, I'm not sure if that is a hardware problem or more an issue with how I'm using it. You need to look down on the Visor screen to frame the shot, and it may be as simple as my not holding the unit steady enough.

2. The intergration with the Visor is great. This is my first Springboard, and the promised "plug-and-play" functionality worked fantastic.

3. The conduit for uploading to the PC works great as well.

4. The unit itself is very small and light - easy to carry around in a pocket when not plugged in.

Overall, I'm pleased with the unit. The picture quality could be better, but given how small and light the unit is, I think it's as good as one could realistically expect.
